Cloud Storage Gateway x Cloud Storage Mount
Perfectly integrate private and public cloud storage, deploy a highly cost-effective, elastic, and secure hybrid cloud storage environment
What is Cloud Storage Gateway?
Cloud Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage application that connects your local storage to public cloud storage. Featuring protocol conversion, the Cloud Storage Gateway converts cloud storage into storage spaces or volumes, allowing you to access cloud-based data using file-based protocols (e.g. SMB, FTP, NFS, AFP) or block-based protocol (e.g. iSCSI). This allows seamless transfer of local data to cloud storage via the Cloud Storage Gateway without modifying local applications. Whether it’s enterprise IT that requires a hybrid cloud environment, or back up data generated by local applications, the Cloud Storage Gateway can fulfill application needs while providing low-latency access to cloud data.
What’s the difference between a Cloud Storage Gateway and Cloud Storage Mount?
QNAP’s Connect to Cloud Drive application allows for mounting public cloud storages to File Station in QTS for centralized management of local storage, cloud storage and remote NAS. But remote mount is not gateway capable, meaning it doesn’t support protocol conversion and SSD caching for faster cloud access and the access speed depends on your current Internet speed.
Advantages of Cloud Storage Gateway
-
Support standard protocols
Cloud Storage Gateway features protocol conversion, allowing you to access cloud storage using standard protocols (including SMB, FTP, AFP, NFS, WebDAV and iSCSI). You can easily access cloud storage from Windows®, Mac®, and Linux® devices.
-
Access cloud data with near-LAN speeds
By enabling local caching on the NAS, the access speed of frequently-used data is greatly optimized, allowing you to enjoy low-latency access to cached cloud files with near-LAN speeds via the Internet.
-
Maximize cloud storage efficiency
Cloud Storage Gateway fully integrates with public cloud storage to centrally store data generated from multiple locations with the flexibility and convenience of cloud storage expansion.
-
Minimize network usage cost
Cloud Storage Gateway caches recently-accessed data on the NAS. When multiple people are using the same file, they don’t need to each download a copy, greatly reducing network usage charges for downloading data from the cloud object storage.
Implement hybrid clouds easily and cost-effectively
Creating a hybrid cloud environment is not as costly as you would think, and is within reach of any size of businesses and individuals. Simply deploy a QNAP NAS system, install cloud storage gateway apps, and mount public cloud storage to the on-premises private cloud.
Maximize multicloud benefits
88% of businesses use at least two clouds, and optimizing the storage utilization of multiple clouds can be a challenge. QNAP cloud storage gateways allow flexible multicloud space management to maximize cloud value.
Same NAS experience
With cloud storage gateway services, accessing cloud storage space is a seamless part of your everyday NAS experience and requires no knowledge of managing cloud services.

VJBOD Cloud: Local Storage Backup to Cloud
VJBOD Cloud can mount public object storage to NAS as a block-level storage space and convert it into an Ext4 file system volume. You can access this storage space with SMB, FTP, AFP, NFS and WebDAV protocols. VJBOD Cloud features a Local Stored Mode that keeps a copy of all data on the local storage. If the cloud connection is disconnected, your application won’t be interrupted. After VJBOD Cloud backs up the data to the cloud, the data will be transformed into an unrecognizable format, making it safer to backup sensitive data to the cloud.

VJBOD Cloud: Block-based Cloud Storage Gateway
VJBOD Cloud can mount public object storage to NAS as a LUN. Businesses can back up the data of their production server to the LUN and then backup to the cloud via the Cloud Storage Gateway. VJBOD Cloud features a Local Stored Mode that keeps a copy of all data on the local storage. If the cloud connection is disconnected, your application won’t be affected. Only block-based LUN changes such as addition, modification, or deletion will be transmitted, greatly reducing bandwidth usage and accelerating data transfer.
