We’re delivering the single biggest expansion ever of our Perth operations: - launching a third new service between Perth and Asia this week - officially opening a new aircraft and pilot base in the West - and shifting our domestic flights to Terminal 2 from today. Following the successful launch of new Jetstar services between Perth and Singapore and Phuket last month, we’ll begin flying up to four times a week between Perth and Bangkok from this Friday, 6 September 2024. This is a challenging day for our industry and we are sad to see Rex enter voluntary administration with the immediate suspension of its Boeing 737 operations. We know this will be a difficult period for many Rex customers and employees and we stand ready to assist. Rex customers impacted by cancelled flights due to the grounding of their domestic jet services can contact Qantas and Jetstar to be reaccommodated on the same route as their original booking at no charge, where we have seats available.

iPads once used by our pilots, cabin crew and engineers are being put to good use in Victorian classrooms.   Since 2022, we have donated 250 iPads with good battery life to three schools, with the latest delivery made to Glenallen School in Melbourne.   Our team got to meet some of the students and teachers giving our iPads a second life, helping with communication and learning.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, our team members operated a return flight from the Gold Coast to Cairns which was fully crewed by First Nations pilots and cabin crew. Captain James Knagge, First Officer Brett Butler, Cabin Manager Lisa Goolagong and crew Karlene Eaton, Nicole Croke and Taylor Rotumah took part. It’s hoped this special flight will encourage other First Nations people to consider a career in aviation. In 2005 Mick joined Jetstar as part of our Engineering Apprentice Program, which he describes as ‘the best thing he’s ever done.’ Nearly 19 years on and Mick is now a Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) Manager on the Gold Coast. “I can honestly say hard work is rewarded at Jetstar. Pardon the pun but the sky’s the limit! There is so much room for career progression and movement within the group. I made the move from Newcastle to Melbourne and now to the Gold Coast.
