The Paralympics is a glimpse into the determination our #HongKongAthletes have exercised throughout the course of their careers, a reminder to us all that nothing is impossible. Ranked world No 1 #ChuManKai finished fourth in Badminton Men’s Singles SH6, delivering an outstanding performance before arriving at the semi-finals. Rising Swimming star #CheungChunLok made his Paralympic debut, competing in the Men’s 200m Freestyle S14 class. He braved his nerves and gave his all, earning a spot in the final. #LeungChungYan made his Paralympic debut at the Table Tennis Men’s Singles TT11 class and was proud of his performance and how hard he’s trained for this year’s Games. At 52 years old, #NgaiKaChuen competed in his second Paralympics at the Men’s Individual Para Archery ST class. He vows to set his sight on the next Paralympics. Table Tennis duo #NgMuiWui and #WongTingTing, world ranking third and sixth respectively, competed in the Women’s Singles TT11 class and put up a great fight and paid tribute to their coaches and team. One cannot begin to fathom the work our home athletes put in to be standing on the Paralympic stage — #EveryMoveCounts. We are fortunate to witness the relentless efforts displayed by #HongKongAthletes — congratulations to home teams for their outstanding performances at #Paris2024! #ChanHoYuen, the silver medalist in the Men’s Singles WH2 Badminton, overcame his injuries to defeat opponent in his last Paralympics. Women’s S14 100m Butterfly silver medalist #ChanYuiLam narrowly missed the podium by 0.15 seconds in the last games. Competing again in Paris, she showcased extraordinary strength, breaking the Asian record that she previously set. Women’s Individual BC4 Boccia silver medalist #CheungYuen made her Paralympic debut, from admiring her predecessors on TV to stepping into the Paralympic arena. #HoYuenKei, the gold medalist in the Women’s Individual BC3 Boccia, reached the peak of her career in her third Paralympics. Men’s BC1 Boccia gold medalist #LoungJohn competed in his fourth Paralympics and finally won his first Paralympic medal, triumphing 4-1 to claim the gold. Women’s SB6 100m Breaststroke bronze medalist #NgCheukYan won bronze in her first Paralympics at 14, surpassing So Wa Wai’s record, becoming Hong Kong’s youngest medalist to do so. The dedication and hard work of our home athletes are beyond our imagination — #EveryMoveCounts. Hong Kong won its first gold in 1996? The truth is our first gold moment was not properly recorded. Our city’s first gold medallist in fact came from the 1984 Paralympics. Since then, our Paralympians have continued making history for Hong Kong. These historic moments deserve to be better recorded and witnessed. Today, with AI technology, our Paralympic medallists can retell inspiring stories that many missed. The relentless moves they made are recreated for the world to see. By embracing a circular economy, we can prevent waste from polluting the natural environment and reduce our reliance on natural resources. We are excited to share our recent launch of an enhanced recycling process on our flights in partnership with Airport Authority Hong Kong, HAECO and China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL). Since April, a new workflow has been established to increase the volume of in-flight plastic bottles and aluminium cans sent for recycling. These recyclables are now sorted at HKIA, and the bottles transported to our recycling partner, New Life Plastics Ltd, who will process them into materials for new water bottles. We are grateful and proud of our people, as well as everyone from the HAECO and CASL cleaning team and Airport Authority Hong Kong team for their contributions towards the collective goal of closing the loop of plastic use. The success of this cross-party collaboration is a testament of our ethos of #GreenerTogether and can serve as a model for more effective inflight recycling in the future. With a dedicated team of airport ground staff arranged at both Hong Kong and Paris airport, we ensured that our home athletes' equipment was well taken care of, and by providing lounge access to the Wing, Business and proximity boarding arrangements, our athletes could preserve their focus before departing on their Paralympics journey.
