A vibrant and sustainable tourism sector is vital for a strong economic future for Fiji. The outcomes of these discussions will be included in the upcoming National Sustainable Tourism Framework. With thanks to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade for supporting IFC’s partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to grow Fiji’s tourism sector.

#TBT 📣 #DESTINATIONS addressed the rising sectors of mobility and tourism in hot-spot European cities by testing integrated strategies that advocated for sustainability and a high quality of life. 🔵 CIVITAS DESTINATIONS sought to integrate sustainable tourism and mobility strategies through the development of mobility solutions in six European island locations: #Elba in Italy, the Portuguese island of #Madeira (and its capital Funchal), #Limassol in Cyprus, #Rethymno on the Greek island of Crete, #LasPalmas de Gran Canaria in Spain, and the #Valletta Region of Malta. 🔵 Our work within the project, mainly revolved around creating a health #assessment #framework for the six cities involved and providing #recommendations on how health-related issues could be included in the development of business cases for future development. The future of #Fiji tourism is #sustainable! Fiji’s Cabinet has approved the new National Sustainable Tourism Framework. The framework sets out the vision and goals of Fiji’s tourism industry and is a 10-year blueprint and strategy for an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future. It will help nurture: ✅ A prosperous visitor economy 👥 Thriving and inclusive community engagement 🤝 Visible and valued cultures 🌊 Healthy islands and oceans With this approach, Fiji can help secure the long-term future of its crucial tourism industry, contributing to resilient, inclusive, and green economic growth to benefit all Fijians. Here's how CBT is reshaping Vietnam's tourism and preserving its culture.

Two of the biggest players in tourism in the Southern Hemisphere, Brazil and South Africa, signed an agreement during the World Travel Market (WTM) London to foster collaboration between the two countries in their tourism initiatives. The agreement, which proposes the sharing of tourism-related information and the identification of the challenges the sector faces in each country, was signed by the Ministers of Tourism of both Brazil and South Africa – Celso Sabino and Patricia de Lille, respectively. Talks had been ongoing since 2014 but the agreement between the two countries was ratified three weeks ago in Cape Town during a meeting of BRICS Tourism Ministers meeting. The agreement coincides with the relaunch of SAA’s direct flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Sao Paulo after three years. During the Informal Meeting of #Tourism Ministers, organised by the Belgian Presidency in Louvain-la-Neuve, I had the chance to highlight the fact that developing sustainable tourism models is key in our rebuilding process. If we want to retain our country ’s competitiveness we cannot afford to be complacent. Malta is one of the few destinations worldwide which have not only recovered its 2019 numbers, but actually surpassed that number by 8% and increased expenditure by 20%. I also believe that investment in skills is key to developing a #sustainable and competitive tourism industry. A skilful workforce not only addresses the gaps needed for the industry to function, but it is essential to have a knowledgeable labour force that is able to understand and man the investments we are taking in the twin transition. My final appeal is that as a Union we should strive to compete in the Single Market in the fairest way possible. Malta is a sovereign island Member State that almost fully depends on air connectivity (and to a lesser extent on the cruise industry) for its tourism activity. We must thus ensure that Union policies and legislation account also for specificities to ensure that our competitiveness is not jeopardised.
