Facts, numbers & IT imperatives
According to IDC’s annual Digital Universe study, the digital universe will grow by a factor of 10 – from 4.4 zettabytes (that is a trillion gigabytes) in 2013 to 44 ZB by 2020. It more than doubles every two years.
IDC, in the study of Data Age 2025, forecasts that by 2025 the global datasphere will grow to 163 ZB. That’s ten times the 16.1 ZB of data generated in 2016.
And by 2025, almost 90% of all data created in the global datasphere will require some level of security, but less than half will be secured.
The business value of much of this data means it still has to be retained and readily available over extended lengths of time.
Efficiently store your data with Tiering Archive Storage
BlueGlacier is designed to fulfill different read/write patterns — SSD for high-I/O operations, HDD for general-purpose applications, and optical discs for storing cold data and archiving long-term data. “Archival Disc”, the next-generation optical disc provided by Panasonic®, is optimized for storing large volumes of data for an extended period of time and is perfect replacement for tape as the best solution for data archiving. BlueGlacier also features powerful Qtier™ technology which automatically tiers files and data based on access frequencies to provide optimal storage performance. The built-in 10 GbE interfaces also provide a major speed increase for heavy workloads.

Data Archival File System optimizes storage utilization
BlueGlacier features the advanced Data Archival File System (DAFS) - allowing storage pools containing plural physical storage devices to be created. It cuts files into blocks and consequently distributes them to grouped physical devices, beneficial for eliminating the need to arrange files into storage devices and enhancing storage utilization. When large batches of files need to be archived/backed up, DAFS saves you from time-consuming tasks.
Effortlessly manage files and backups
You can easily manage data across every stage of its lifespan using BlueGlacier’s user-friendly environment and productivity apps.
Implement 3-2-1 rules for data protection
According to Data Backup Options, a United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) publication, all computer users (from individual users to large corporations) should back up their critical data to protect against loss or corruption. Saving just one backup file may not be enough to safeguard your information. To increase your chances of recovering lost or corrupted data, follow the 3-2-1 rule.
Combines performance, longevity, and scalability
Integrating a powerful enterprise NAS, long-lifespan optical discs, and the scalability to increase storage capacity, BlueGlacier delivers a perfect solution for long-term data archiving for an ever-growing amount of data.

Application Examples
BlueGlacier is a cost-effective investment for storing legacy data in a wide range of fields, such as video production, broadcasting, surveillance videos, big data used to develop AI and deep learning, medical and legal information, data centers, and more.
Video production/broadcasting
Challenges
The increase in image quality from 1080p to 4K (and with 8K and 16K on the horizon) creates an increasing demand for storage to both produce and archive media files.
Solutions
BlueGlacier offers an SSD/HDD hybrid tier to quickly respond to data from media asset management systems, and once the data is selected to be pushed to the cold/archive data storage, optical discs will be the best place for it.
Benefits
BlueGlacier’s comprehensive API support also enables the possibility of integrating the media asset management system into BlueGlacier to improve operational workflows.
Data centers
Challenges
Increasing volumes of data causes a major increase in backup costs, and legacy archived data requires reliable, long-term storage.
Solutions
BlueGlacier provides an integrated solution that enables users to separate cold (rarely-accessed) data from primary storage and transfer it to optical discs with longer archival life and greater reliability.
Benefits
Organizations can enjoy optimal storage efficiency, higher performance, and lower total cost of ownership of the entire storage system.
