In a significant move for sports journalism, Authentic Brands Group, the owner of Sports Illustrated, has partnered with digital media company Minute Media for the publication of the magazine and website. This strategic alliance aims to uphold the legacy of Sports Illustrated while expanding its reach and impact in the evolving media landscape.
Minute Media, known for its properties like FanSided and The Players’ Tribune, will now manage Sports Illustrated's operations, previously handled by The Arena Group. The deal, effective immediately, spans an initial 10 years with the option for two additional 10-year extensions.
Authentic Brands Group, which acquired Sports Illustrated in 2019, will also take a stake in Minute Media as part of the agreement. Minute Media, generating over $400 million in annual revenue, plans to continue the magazine's print edition and expand its publishing operations globally.
