The 24/25 study year officially kicked off yesterday. I saw hundreds of new students during their introduction days. Just over 100 students will start the Dutch Sportkunde programme whereas a record number of 130+ joined the International Sport Management programme at Sport Studies | International Sport Management THUAS. Today saw the start of the minor Global Issues in International Football Management for second year students. It was good to see so many familiar faces from the first year as well as a number of students from other faculties. Marc Brady MBA guided them through the course programme and I was more than happy to chip in in order to give him a break. Look forward to the next ten weeks which will be loaded with guest speakers and topical cases.

📌 My invaluable internship experience at GROW It has been a little under a week since the official conclusion of my two-month internship at GROW and I am struggling to find the words to describe just how much this excellent team of agents has taught me. Over the past 10 weeks, I have experienced what it takes to be a successful agent in the current state of the football industry. From talent scouting to direct involvement with the development of GROW’s clients, this team has welcomed me with open arms and guided me through my first step towards becoming a top football agent. Once again, thank you to Thomas Freismuth for trusting me with this internship, your work ethic is inspiring. 🌟 An Amazing 10 Weeks at SPĒXS 🌟 I'm thrilled to share the incredible experience I had as a Digital Marketing and PR Intern at SPĒXS. Over the past 10 weeks, I gained invaluable insights into audience engagement, digital content creation and social media management. One of our key achievements was reconstructing and launching the SPĒXS website at  spexs-fit.nl . A massive thank you to Darja Sumska, the founder of SPĒXS, for this incredible opportunity. A big thanks also to Joppe de Vries for supervising me during these 10 weeks at Sport Studies | International Sport Management THUAS and to Raphael Priftis for introducing me to SPĒXS. This feels more like the beginning of an exciting journey rather than the end. Can elite sport ever be sustainable? Critiquing dominant sustainability paradigms and advocating Degrowth as a possible pathway to enhance sustainability practices in elite sport Just arrived back from Pontevedra in Galicia after attending the Conferencia Internacional ESEE-Decrecemento 2024 Pontevedra, where I was extremely proud to present our paper (see title above) on behalf of Attila Szathmári, PhD, (Corvinus University of Budapest), Christian Moesch, Pascal Stegmann (University of Bern) and James Bostock (University of Derby). Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the session. The conference has also given me more ideas of potential areas of research into Degrowth and Sport. We all look forward to contributing to the next conference in Olso 2025 with a new paper linking Elite Sport/Sport and Degrowth - I hope more of us can be present next time! A special mention to The Lectoraat: The Impact of Sport (led by Koen Breedveld) and Sport Studies | International Sport Management THUAS (Esthrella Khouw) at De Haagse Hogeschool / The Hague University of Applied Sciences for providing me with the opportunities to explore this very important area of research. Third year in a row, SPEXS has an opportunity to supervise 2nd year students of Sport Studies | International Sport Management THUAS. This year Shahab Shirani for a period of 10 weeks is completing his PR/ Social media management project under supervision of Darja Sumska. Here is what Shahab says about his experience so far: "It's been an eventful 4 weeks here at SPEXS! Being part of Sport Studies | International Sport Management THUAS program has allowed me to dive into the world of entrepreneurship, guided by Darja Sumska, an ISPM alumni and the driving force behind SPEXS. In my role as a PR Relations and Digital Marketer intern, these past weeks have been filled with dynamic learning experiences. From shaping brand strategies to crafting digital campaigns, each day has brought fresh insights and opportunities for growth. What's particularly exciting is that we've already outlined a detailed plan for the whole length of the internship. With 6 weeks still ahead of us, I'm confident in our ability to make a significant impact in the industry. Stay tuned for updates on our progress!
