Offering some of Mexico’s most dramatic scenery, the Copper Canyon is a series of spectacular rugged and forested canyons, some even deeper than the Grand Canyon. It is home to the Tarahumara people, who still live in small settlements and caves in the canyon.

The Chihuahua Pacific railway (El Chepe) offers one of the most breathtaking train journeys in the world. Travel from the town of Chihuahua, famous for its revolutionary history, down to the charming town of El Fuerte (near Los Mochis), or vice versa. Stop at Barrancas or El Divisadero overlooking the canyon for extraordinary views and hiking opportunities. Visit the frontier towns of Creel and Cerocahui, en route, for further exploration of the area, including visits to the picturesque Arareko Lake and the strange rock formations in the Valley of the Mushrooms, or walks in the pine and oak forests. Perhaps take a detour and stay deep in the canyon at the historic mining town of Batopilas.
