Drive north from Hanoi to the world heritage site of Halong Bay. Here you will board the luxurious Au Co for a 2-night cruise aboard one of the finest ships on the bay. Your 2-night itinerary allows you to reach more remote areas of Halong Bay such as Ho Ba Ham lagoon and Cat Ba Island. (B, L, D)

Fly to Hué
Fly to Hue, the 19th-century Nguyen capital. Afternoon visit to the royal tombs of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. A dinner reservation will be made at the Tha Om Garden House, a wonderfully atmospheric place to dine set in a beautiful garden with a lotus pond in the middle. Stay 2 nights at Azerai La Residence. Hué
Take an escorted ride through the streets of Hué for a view of the city from street level, visiting the Imperial City and the Purple Forbidden City enclosure inside. Afterwards, enjoy a short cruise on the Perfume River and then visit the Thien Mu Pagoda, which is situated on the riverbank outside the city. (B, L)
Hoi An
Drive to Hoi An via the Hai Van Pass, the ‘Pass of the Ocean Clouds’, where the Truong Son mountain range cuts across the narrow centre of the country. Stay 2 nights at the Royal Hoi An, Mgallery By Sofitel. (B, L)
Hoi An
Wander through the twisting lanes of Hoi An, home to many galleries and cafes, the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge, and numerous wooden merchant houses built in a mix of Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese architectural styles. (B)
Fly to Ho Chi Minh City
Drive to Danang and fly to Ho Chi Minh City. Take an afternoon tour of the city visiting the Reunification Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the War Remnants Museum, which displays a number of exhibits relating to the war with the US and battles with occupying French forces. Stay 2 nights at the Park Hyatt Saigon. Following day is at leisure. (B, D)
