The June CA magazine includes a column from me on Shaping the Profession, a major program of research, consultancy and consultation with stakeholders. We are asking fundamental and difficult questions, including about how qualifications, professional accountants and the profession will all need to change to be relevant, valued and trusted in a world enabled by technology and challenged by critical concerns including sustainability, inequality, ethical failures and globalisation. It’s an essential program; one in which I’m delighted to say ICAS is brave enough to take the lead.

Thank you ICAS - The Professional Body of CAs, Ryan Herman and Sarah Speirs for helping UK firms to prepare for the upcoming commercial risks associated with working with EU financial services clients. This month’s magazine includes my article on what UK firms need to do now.   Many firms are unaware that their EU clients are conducting thorough risk assessments for Information and Communication Technology, which include evaluating the risk exposure to and from other financial entities and critical or important functions.    This means that EU firms may contact their UK third parties to review their risk analysis and cyber controls. Based on this, the client will decide whether it can continue the business relationship without regulatory issues. This could be a make-or-break discussion, and the deadline is only seven months away.

What makes a #betterworkingworld? It's the collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive innovation in combating cybercrime and our nation's cyber adversaries. I had the distinct honor of co-presenting on a distinguished panel at last week's #NCS2024. My gratitude goes to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Paul Abbate for initiating our session with an insightful keynote address, and to FBI Executive Assistant Director of the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch, Michael Nordwall, my EY Partner Jeff Sallet, and the National Cyber Summit for your partnership on this mission-critical cybersecurity topic.
