A sobering watch, that one suspects demonstrates we're sleep walking into a problem that we cannot fix without radical action. "An active and direct threat to the U.S homeland security." "We need to step up and defend ourselves in cyberspace." "The damage that could be done is almost hard to imagine." "It requires unprecedented collaboration between the public and private sector". "It's not just a government problem its a whole of society problem" "The PRC has a bigger hacking program than that of every major nation combined" Cyber is an active threat to national security, used as one component of an integrated physical and logical threat. That is being resourced to target critical national infrastructure, steal Intellectual property and gain strategic and tactical military advantage. This is no longer a FUD debate. We do not have the necessary resources, Knowledge, skill or experience across the public or private sector to address this threat. Nor does one see any plans to address this. If we cannot get the private sector to focus on cybersecurity risk management, then we will not protect Critical National Infrastructure Security. Let alone have the capability to make and service kinetic weapon systems. https://lnkd.in/eZZKUNMu Thoughts? Ted Dziekanowski Brian D. McCarthy Rich Waite, M.Ed. "New European cybersecurity competence centre and network", interesting briefing published now in June 2024 by the European Parliament. 👇 This briefing summarizes the development and implementation of the European Union's #cybersecurity initiatives, beginning with the adoption of a #cybersecurity package by the European Commission on 13 September 2017. This package aimed to enhance European Union cyber-resilience and defense capabilities. In September 2018, the European Commission proposed establishing a European #cybersecurity competence centre and a #network of national coordination centres to strengthen European Union #cybersecurity infrastructure. This centre was designated to manage European Union funds for #cybersecurity research under the Digital Europe and Horizon Europe programs from 2021 to 2027. Following extensive negotiations and trilogue meetings, the legislation was enacted on 28 June 2021. RANSOMWARE: NEW RESEARCH, STRONGER POLICY FREE WEBINAR & PANEL DISCUSSION: 7 NOVEMBER #Ransomware is an escalating threat to global #cybersecurity and the national security of several countries. Just one week ago, the fourth annual summit of the multinational #CounterRansomwareInitiative (CRI) issued a statement on recent measures and results. In response, a select panel of policy specialists will review progress made at the summit in a webinar hosted by the #SocialCyberInstitute, based in Australia. The speakers will discuss strengths and shortcomings of this diplomatic effort. Closing down payment of ransoms by the victims of such attacks is one measure that is beginning to have some effect in a few countries, but it is far from the whole picture. The trends in these attacks and their consequences are not looking good. With cybercriminals becoming more sophisticated, it’s clear that a comprehensive, proactive approach is needed to strengthen defences across sectors. For example, leading law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, are stepping up their efforts. Only this month, the FBI took action against a Russian criminal enterprise that had been operating against the US since 2017. Learn about the strategic shifts required to empower governments, businesses, and international collaborations to tackle this growing menace head-on. Join Social Cyber Institute Fellows and Australia’s Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technologies, Brendan Dowling, for this compelling event. PART 1: The Proliferation of Information as a Defense Strategy The strategic dissemination of accurate information is critical to national defense. It not only informs the public about potential threats and safety protocols but also plays an active role in psychological defense strategies against misinformation campaigns by adversarial nations. By establishing and maintaining robust and transparent channels of information, a nation can ensure that its populace is not swayed by external influences or internal subversion. The nexus between national security and the authenticity of news sources is clear and compelling. Ensuring that news sources maintain high standards of accuracy and reliability is essential, not just for the security of information but as a cornerstone of national security itself. In a world increasingly dominated by information warfare, safeguarding the authenticity of our news sources is not just preferable — it is an imperative. #cybersecurity #fakenews #CIA #nationalsecurity #NSA #hacking https://lnkd.in/dNjeqwQP
