Good read for all of my peers and colleagues in cyber and intelligence analysis. Nothing absolutely earth shattering for those in the throes of the profession. However, I found it introspective that the BLUF highlights the “fundamental transformation” in how we prioritize cybersecurity as part of the greater US national security aperture. Transformative periods in security posturing often refers to operational reactivity. Performing triage after the fact to ascertain “how”/“why” it happened and preparation for future incidents. However, the rate at which technology evolves compounded by manipulation and perversion by state agencies, lone wolf actors, terror groups, and general cybercriminals creates a necessity for proactivity. If this is the case when somebody goes on a Holiday, you still have some work to do ;) Dependency on individuals (and single point of failure solutions) in your business when it comes to core processes is highly risky. Still very common in IT though because; well, it's cheaper not to be redundant. It's usually resolved by expecting (demanding) the responsible person to be "always on", which is a unhealthy situation. Not just for the person itself, but for the business as well. It puts a break on growth / continuity / innovation and more. Are your systems / processes / connections / people redundant? Is it clear, is a plan B always in place? Do we know what to do when "X" win's the lottery and suddenly leaves tomorrow?
