The June CA magazine includes a column from me on Shaping the Profession, a major program of research, consultancy and consultation with stakeholders. We are asking fundamental and difficult questions, including about how qualifications, professional accountants and the profession will all need to change to be relevant, valued and trusted in a world enabled by technology and challenged by critical concerns including sustainability, inequality, ethical failures and globalisation. It’s an essential program; one in which I’m delighted to say ICAS is brave enough to take the lead.

James, could you also publish a PDF or link here? Thanks
James So pleased about the article and the progress to date. This idea for an important piece of work for the profession was the my legacy to ICAS when I stepped down as chair of Policy Leadership Board a year ago. When I was notified that you were chairing this team I was delighted. Look forward to reading more in the future. Very best wishes Philip
Thank you James for accepting (1) being interviewed and (2) more so yet chairing the StP - as we affectionately call our Shaping the Profession programme - Steering Group. Exciting times ahead as we seek to ask the hard questions and are prepared to address the potentially challenging answers to ensure our profession is set to continue delivering value to traditional stakeholders and to society at large for the future.
Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute to CA.
Thanks James Baird, PhD . I'm confident that ICAS - The Professional Body of CAs shall maintain the leading edge in the professional accounting world being the first organised professional accounting body established as back as in 1854.
Thank you James! And a huge thank you for your wonderful contribution to this month's CA magazine 👏

5moJames, you beamed out at me as I consumed my All Bran this morning - and when I had read your column, I beamed back. Yours is an excellent article and, as you say, it is great to see ICAS taking a lead, and, if I may say, especially with you as Chair of the steering group behind the initiative. Plenty to talk about over scones at Molly’s… well done and good luck with what lies ahead.
