The Camp Research Revolution: Transforming Youth Development 🏕️📊 Ever wonder why "camp magic" is so hard to explain? 🤔 Traditional approaches to understanding camp's impact often relied on anecdotes and vague notions of "magic." This left us struggling to articulate camp's true value to skeptics and decision-makers. (*If you have ever seen me present or you are a long-time CampHacker listener, you know how much I _dislike_ the term Camp Magic.😡) Our "aha" moment: Camp researchers realized years ago that we needed concrete evidence to support our claims and guide our program improvements. Here's how innovative camp research is changing the game: - Action Research: Involving camp staff and participants in the research process - Longitudinal Studies: Tracking camper outcomes over multiple years - Creative Methods: Using art and mapping to capture campers' perspectives - Ecosystem Approach: Examining camp's role within a broader developmental context Results: - Increased legitimacy for the camp industry - Evidence-based program improvements - Better articulation of camp's value to parents scared of the "risk" of sending their kids to summer camp Potential applications: 1️⃣ Informing youth development policies (at camp and in the larger world) 2️⃣ Enhancing school-camp partnerships (we have the research to show your Superintendant hesitant to give permission to bring your class) 3️⃣ Improving staff training and retention strategies 🎯 Reflection: Creative problem-solving in camp research has validated our work and opened new avenues for growth and innovation in our very important youth development work. https://lnkd.in/gPamsQ8s Thank you to my The Pudding Podcast partner Mandi Baker, Laurie Browne , Jacob Sorenson, and Victoria Povilaitis, PhD, for talking to us about the state of camp research. We're so excited to start to release our Season 2 episodes soon! Cheers to the American Camp Association, Illinois and Camptivities for continuing to make this show possible! #CampResearch #YouthDevelopment #InnovativeApproaches #BecauseofCamp #ThanksToCamp #CampPros

DINNER WITH STRANGERS (sort of): Through my organization the Constructors Guild™, I organize monthly dinners that I've coined Moai dinners. Moai being Japanese for "a meeting for the common good". Many times, not always, some or all attendees don't end up knowing each other prior to sitting down for the dinner/event. Although some have confided that it's partly intimidating to them. NONE have shared that that is how they still felt when they left the dinner and discourse. Connecting with people is not a one way street. It involves you embracing your vulnerability and putting yourself out there. If you combine that with a willingness to play full out, and a generosity to share what you have as knowledge, and wisdom. Then the sky is the limit of what you can experience and takeaway at one of our dinners. You get what you put in. This month's dinner is being held this coming Thursday May 30th, 2024 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Cost is $150 pp TOPIC: 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐫 - 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 The intent of this dinner is to discuss what we can do as an industry to best prepared and deliver a mentoring program for our youth, new comers as well as existing workforce. 20% of our industry is set to retire in the next 5 - 10 years. The time to think and act upon this is now. If you've been thinking about this topic, and have insights to share. Or, felt like you are alone in this. Let us put you at ease. We have a few spots left. DM me directly, or visit us online using the link in the comments below. 👇 #community #construction #constructionindustry #constructorsguild

Worth 5 minutes of your time. The impact goes far deeper than a first glance would suggest.
Our co-chair, Andrew McLeod spoke with the Newshub team this week on the welcome re-opening of the Brynderwyns. Andrew reminded viewers that the Brynderwyns route is not a permanent solution and that we need a 4 lane expressway from Warkworth to Whangārei to ensure an efficient and resilient connection to Auckland. Northland is very much open for business and we hope to see lots more visitors this Matariki weekend. #NorthlandExpressway cc: Rosie Mercer, Lindsay Faithfull, Rob Buchanan, Rob Kirwan, Northpower, Marsden Maritime Holdings Ltd, Culham Engineering Company Ltd, Channel Infrastructure NZ, McKay, Mark Trigg, Murray Jagger, Vince Cocurullo, Ripeka Evans, Harry Burkhardt
