We are honored to announce the Spring 2024 election results! After witnessing one of the highest turnout, most contested competitions in recent years, our annual Spring elections have produced an impressive set of 26 elected General Assembly Representatives who’ll serve the 2024-2025 Student Senate term. We also congratulate Argha G. and Sanah Feroz who were elected Student Body President and Vice President respectively. Both the upcoming Goswami-Feroz Administration and all Senators-elect will be formally inaugurated at the Annual Meeting on April 3rd 2024 in Senate Chambers (Room 300 of the Memorial Student Union).

🇨🇿💝🇪🇺 Today, 21 May, is the first day of Studentske Volby (#StudentElections) for the #EUParliament. These mock elections, run by our colleagues JSNS, familiarise students with democratic participation before making real-life choices. 🗳️The Studentske Volby addresses one of the key problems facing many democratic states: that many people often lack first-hand knowledge and experience of #democratic processes. Through, mock elections, we help students to understand the role they play in the democratic process, understand their #rights and #responsibilities, and make active and informed choices about their futures. 🎉 We hope all students participating, find the election both enlightening and rewarding! 📚To learn more about Studentske Volby, see here (in Czech only): https://buff.ly/49Nmsn2 #ActiveCitizenshop #CivicParticipation, #DemocraticParticipation, #Education, #Election, #ElectoralProcess, #Future, #Students, #Voting,

The Students' Union Okanagan's General Election is here! As someone who works in the SUO, I believe I have good insight when it comes to choosing the future leaders that will sit on the SUO Board of Directors. I want to share a few thoughts about how you should choose which candidates to vote for. How to choose a candidate to support: - Look at their credentials and experience - Ask their coworkers, classmates, groupmates, etc. about their work ethic - Pay attention to whether they attend the SUO Election Debates or not - See how well they know the SUO - Pay attention to their political values - Important questions to ask them: - What is a current SUO initiative that you would like to improve, and how? - How involved have you been with the SUO? - Why do you think you are worthy of this position? - What do you think is lacking in the SUO right now, and how do you think that can be fixed? - What are your goals for this election? - How do you currently show that you care about the student body? - Would you be running for this position even if it did not include an honorarium? If you have any thoughts, feel free to comment or message me! I care about the SUO Elections, and I welcome any discussion surrounding it! Let us vote wisely this General Election, because the SUO leaders impact our university life to a great extent. It's Election Day TODAY! And although there are no state or federal races up for votes, there are a few local seats that are even more important to vote for! They may not be as popular, but the outcomes of local elections impact us much more in our a day to day lives than any other. If you want to have an impact on Barnstable's housing, economic, energy, infrastructure and education policies for the near future, We encourage you to take a few minutes today (Tuesday, November 7th) to vote for Town Council, School Committee and Housing Authority. There are 13 precincts in the Town of Barnstable and all 13 seats were up for a vote this year. You can find your precinct information here (https://lnkd.in/eSPN2uMv) and information on where to vote and who is running here (https://lnkd.in/eysayQTc). Only 6 of the Town Council seats are contested. The unopposed candidates automatically get in unless there is a write-in candidate. If you see voting as a privilege, then you’re making a big mistake. We are living in a world where very few take this act seriously. Today, standing in the booth and casting my vote in the MP elections felt different. It made me think about all those who fought hard so we could have a say in our future. It made me realize: > Each vote is a voice that contributes to the collective decision-making process. > It's a chance to have a say in who will lead us and shape policies that impact us all. > Voting is a way to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for our democratic rights. By exercising our right to vote, we ensure that the government is held accountable and represents the people's will. For those who say, it doesn’t matter whom you vote or that it’s all a setup: remember, every vote counts, and the outcomes of elections hinge on a handful of votes. We can transform each of our states and our country only by standing together. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

Pennsylvania’s Puerto Rican American population could potentially pivot America’s most populous swing state. That’s not only a tongue twister but also an election twister. President Joe Biden’s home state of Pennsylvania ultimately voted blue in 2020, but which color will America’s most populous swing state vote this time around? With nearly 500,000 Puerto Rican Americans ready to vote in the Keystone State, the large and growing community could be the margin of difference in the upcoming 2024 elections. In this episode, co-hosts Sara and Juan Diego discuss Puerto Rican Americans’ voting power in Pennsylvania — their migration history to the state, the issues impacting their communities, and their potential to sway the election. Tune in: https://loom.ly/liMdf-M.

🗳️✨ Understanding the importance of primaries goes beyond just selecting candidates; it's about shaping the nature of US politics! Primaries are elections held before the general election where voters choose their preferred candidate to represent them in the general election. When you think of elections, you likely think of the November elections, leaving the importance of primary elections in the dust. Yet, primaries hold the key to competitive races and impactful representation. Take Texas, for instance, where the majority of congressional and legislative races have already been decided by the time November rolls around. This stems from the strategic redrawing of political maps during redistricting cycles. Because of redistricting, most contests are decided during the primary. The solution? Young people showing up and voting for candidates that represent them during the primaries. In the 2022 elections, a staggering 83% of the U.S. House was elected by just 8% of Americans. Not only do young Americans deserve better from our representatives, we can demand more! Take the first step and Vote Early or on your State's Primary Election Day. Did you know that every election cycle, Ballotpedia produces a Legislative Competitiveness Report? The competitiveness of elections in each state is quantified based on the number of open seats, incumbents in contested primaries, and general elections with Democrat and Republican candidates running head-to-head. In 2022, the least competitive state was Massachusetts. In 2020, the least competitive state was also Massachusetts. And in 2018, the least competitive state was again Massachusetts. Guess what the least competitive state was in 2016? You guessed it -- Massachusetts. Nevertheless, this year some Massachusetts voters will have the luxury of choosing between multiple candidates. Today we are releasing our ballot guide for the following contested State Representative positions in Middlesex County: - 12th District (Newton & Brookline) - 25th District (Cambridge) - 27th District (Somerville) - 35th District (Medford & Malden) Check out our website to view the ballot guides. We will be posting many more in the coming weeks!
