Kourtney Kardashian's rarely-seen son Mason makes shock return to reality TV amid secret family heartbreak
Kourtney Kardashian's oldest child - 14-year-old Mason - made a rare appearance on the Season 5 finale of The Kardashians.
Towards the end of this week's Season 5 finale, Kylie Jenner hosts a massive dinner party - catered by Nobu - for the entire family.
As the family starts to file into Kylie's home, Kourtney is seen giving Mason a hug, saying, 'My son,' as he smiles and hugs his mom.
While Mason hasn't been seen on screen in years, his mom was quite sad when he decided to stay with his dad and ditch Kourtney's Australia family trip.
Season 5 represents the last in Hulu's current pact with the family, though it remains to be seen if the show will be renewed, and if so, if Mason will be a bigger part of the show moving forward.

The episode begins with Kim telling Kris and Khloe, ‘I was getting my blood drawn the other day and the person goes, ‘I mean, your mom’s blood, wow.’
Kris adds, ‘He called me up and said, “Your blood results should be in a museum, that’s how good they are for your age. I mean, when somebody tells you that, you’re not gonna throw that little comment away,’ as Khloe adds, ‘No.’
Kim adds, ‘There’s this thing called a Horvath test,’ as Khloe says, ‘A whore bath?’ Kim insists, ‘No, not a whore bath. I don’t know why they would ever… I don’t think it’s spelled like a whore.’
Khloe says in confession, ‘I heard a whore bath. Whore bath. A whore bath test. Isn’t that what you heard? Whore bath. I would just change the name.’
Kim adds, ‘I think it’s like a whore…’ as Kris asks, ‘How do you spell whore?’ Kim adds, ‘I don’t really know how it (the test) is spelled, I just know it’s not like a hooker bath. It’s like this age test that will tell you exactly what your like physical real age is.’
Kim adds in confession, ‘I found this test called the Horvath test. Whoever named it needs to be fired. It measures your biological age, not your chronological age, but I just want to feel my best. If I happen to look like I’m 20, I’m not mad at it.’
Kim tells Khloe and Kris, ‘Say you’re 40 and your blood test comes back that for sure for sure for sure,’ as Kris explains, ‘It wasn’t my blood test. It was the scanner. The scan that we took said I was 40.’
Khloe says, ‘Mom, they didn’t tell any of us our age,’ as Kim insists, ‘They didn’t,’ as Kris says, ‘Well we filmed it and we can back… you were there Paxy.’

Khloe asks, ‘Yeah, how do they find out?’ Kim answers, ‘Blood,’ as Khloe asks, ‘What if they tell an age that’s older than my chronological age? Do you know how upset I would be?’
Khloe adds in confession, ‘I don’t feel like this is gonna be good for me and if it tells me I’m 75, I’m gonna spiral and then how do I fix that? I don’t. So what does that mean? I’m dead?’

She shows them the islands and the Sydney Opera House and her flowers, adding, ‘Travis surprised me last night, it would be so your style. He had a white Rolls-Royce pick us up, take us to dinner,’ as they show footage of them getting in the car.
‘It was our Valentine’s Day and we had the best time. And then there was more of the same flowers in the hotel but we only got to stay for a couple hours but like I couldn’t with the baby and all the kids,’ Kourtney tells Khloe.

A producer asks Kourtney, ‘Are you a romantic?’ She answers, ‘I’m definitely a romantic,’ as Travis interrupts her confession to bring her, ‘latte drink from whatchamacallit,’ as they kiss.
She tells him, ‘We’re talking about Australia. She says, “Are you a romantic?” I know Travis is a romantic, but are you, and I said yes,’ as Travis adds, ‘I think I brought it out in her.’
Kourtney adds, as Travis kisses her hand, ‘I was thinking like I’m a romantic with him,’ as Travis adds, ‘Yeah, ‘cause I remember someone I was just friends with would be like, “I don’t even like hugging people. I had to go to a hugging class,” that’s what you told me.’

Kourtney tries her matcha and is clearly disgusted, adding, ‘Ugh, it tastes like fish.’
The episode cuts back to Los Angeles, where Jane Fonda is waiting at Homeboy Industries’ Homegirl Cafe in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles.
‘I’m glad I’m gonna be able to have Kim come here and learn a little bit about it. She has a lot of ways that she could really matter to Homeboy,’ Jane says.
Kim arrives and she hugs Jane, who thanks her for coming, as Kim says in confession, ‘I mean, I’m constantly thinking about how we can improve prisons and help people re-enter civilization.’

Kim continues in confession, ‘Once I realized that I can make a difference, it was really kind of hard to stop,’ as they show more footage of Kim helping prisoners.
‘You know, I think once you spend time in prisons and you meet people and you hear their story, you might not ever make that same choice, but you also have never really been in their shoes,’ Kim adds in confession.
Kim continues, ‘I just like to have like an open heart and really believe that people can change,’ as Jane takes her into the office of Father Greg Boyle, the founder of Homeboy Industries.
‘I’m meeting with Jane Fonda, who is a board member of Homeboy Industries, which is an amazing organization that helps assimilate formerly incarcerated people coming home and getting them jobs so I’m really excited to see what it’s all about today,’ Kim says in confession.
Jane tells Kim, ‘You know, we really respect your work on criminal justice reform and you’ve helped get them out and I know we’ve talked about… getting them out is one thing, and hen once they’re out they’ve got nothing, right? You know that better than I do, and that’s why we exist here at Homeboy.’
Kim says, ‘That’s amazing. How did you get involved?’ Jane answers, ‘I wanted to be on the board because I wanted to see, up close and personal, what this secret sauce is, and it’s just amazing.’
Kim says in confession, ‘I really, you know, admire Jane’s dedication to this cause. She’s been doing this for a few decades now and I’m just so inspired by all of the people I met along the way to just continue this fight.’
Jane tells Kim that everyone is so excited that she’s here as Jane takes her through the kitchen and tells her, ‘The food is really good,’ as Kim says, ‘I know, I got a delivery of a cake before.’

Kim is taken into the bakery, as a woman says it’s, ‘a $2 million business a year,’ as Jane says that she and her Grace & Frankie co-star Lily Tomlin were there before, learning to make croissants.’
Jane adds, ‘What was so moving to us is the two guys who were teaching us were former members of gangs who, you know, fought each other, and there they were, making bread together. I found that so moving.’
They ask Kim if she wants to try making their buttered croissants, as she grabs an apron and gives it a shot.
While she gets it wrong at first, they correct her and she rolls a perfect croissant as Jane says, ‘She’s a natural!’
Kim jokes, ‘Don’t tell my kids that I know how to make a croissant,’ as she takes pics with many of the workers while wearing a hairnet.
Kim is then taken to the tattoo removal area, as Jane says, ‘You know why it’s important to have the tats removed, right? Because you want to get back into the world you’ve gotta…’

Another Homeboy employee says, ‘For me, this is my family, like I don’t have family of my own. Now I’m here and I work in the legal department. I’m studying to be a paralegal,’ which Kim says is, ‘amazing.’
‘I also know how to expunge all my peers’ records and my batting average is pretty good because we have a 95% percentage rate of granted expungements,’ she adds, which impresses Kim and Jane.
‘But without Homeboy, yeah, I wouldn’t be able to do it,’ she says, as Kim tells the camera that, ‘Today was amazing, I’m so honored.’

Kourtney uses the ride to the zoo to pump some breast milk, as she hands a small bottle to Travis, who tells Reign, ‘I had some the other day, it was so good,’ but he admits he was kidding.
They get to the zoo and meets a worker who asks, ‘Are you guys excited to see some animals today?’
They walk up to a kangaroo and Reign asks if he can pet her and the employee says yes, as he does so and Travis starts filming.
‘That is so cute,’ Kourtney tells Travis, as the woman hands Reign some of the roo’s favorite food and asks Reign to feed her.
The episode transitions back to Sydney, where Travis, Kourtney and her son Reign are ready to head to the zoo, though Kourtney says that, ‘Penelope fell asleep, guys. She’s sound asleep'

The kangaroo starts pooping as Reign steps in the droppings, before they go to another area and Reign asks, ‘Mom, can we get a pet of this?’
‘I think it’s like a rare…’ Kourtney begins, as an employee says, ‘Yeah, unfortunately you can’t keep them as pets.’
Another woman says, ‘Also, their poo is so stinky,’ but Reign says, ‘Eh, it’s worth it, probably, for how cute he is.’
They go to see a koala, as the woman says, ‘Koalas sleep about 20 hours a day,’ as Kourtney says, ‘That’s the cutest thing,’ as Reign asks, ‘Momma, can we buy a koala?’
‘They’re very rare, sweetie, and endangered,’ Kourtney says, as Travis asks the employee, ‘Did you guys like try to find someone to mate with him?’
The woman says, ‘Yes, so he actually had a visitor this morning, maybe that’s why he is the way he is now.’
They go to see a koala, as the woman says, ‘Koalas sleep about 20 hours a day,’ as Kourtney says, ‘That’s the cutest thing,’ as Reign asks, ‘Momma, can we buy a koala?’
‘Oooh you got some game,’ Reign says as the woman laughs, as they leave and Reign asks for hand sanitizer.
Travis leaves to do a sound check for the show as he kisses Kourtney many times as Reign gives them a shady look and ultimately says, ‘Stop making out.
Travis leaves and Reign grabs Kourtney by the hand and says, ‘Now let’s go,’ as they go see more animals and Kourtney says, ‘Now don’t get any more ideas for pets. We have six pets and seven kids, including a baby.’
‘Travis had to leave early to go to rehearsal, but I love trying to spend one-on-one time with the kids, and Reign and I, we have so much fun when we’re together, we just laugh the whole time.,’ Kourtney says in confession.
Another worker shows Reign how to feed a giraffe some carrots, as he jokes, ‘And if you get a bit of slobber on your hand, it’s good hair gel as well.’
Reign starts to move his hand towards Kourtney’s hair and says, ‘How about you get some hair gel mom?’ But she pushes him away and says, ‘No, no hair gel for mommy.’
‘Mom, can we get a pet of this?’ he says, looking at a giraffe.

Kim says in confession, ‘We’re doing a blood test to check our biological age. I feel pretty good about mine. It would be very ego-boosting if I was younger than my regular age.’
Scott says, ‘God, I’m probably so much older than it says,’ as Khloe admits, ‘That’s what I’m afraid about.’
Scott insists, ‘No, you’re in such good health. Kim’s probably gonna be like 15. I’m probably gonna be like 70.’
Khloe adds, ‘But if it says we’re like 80…’ as she continues in confession, ‘Every prick and blood drop I’m f***ing freaking out. The only thing that’s saving me is that Scott’s doing this test too, cause there’s no way I’m older than Scott. He used to party like a… I don’t even know. Scott used to party, I’ll just say that.’
Khloe asks Vadim if he’s done this and he shakes his head, saying, ‘I’m old. It would not make a difference,’ as Khloe laughs.
Vadim adds, ‘It just gives you ability to modify your life so you can live longer with better quality,’ as Khloe says, ‘Hell yeah,’ and Scott asks, ‘You’re trying to live longer?’

Khloe says in confession, ‘I honestly feel like all of my sisters would be probably younger. Kourt works out, she eats great, I mean disgusting, avocado smoothies, like…’
They thank Vadim as Khloe continues in confession, ‘I love ice cream, cookies and Goldfish, Wheat Thins, cereal, love it.’
Kim adds in confession, ‘I definitely think I’m gonna be younger, just for like how much health and wellness and everything I do I would be like, OK it’s all a scam. My mom’s getting her blood drawn at her house.
Khloe adds in confession, ‘My mom, she loves her martinis and she doesn’t love to work out,’ as Kim jokes in confession, ‘She calls it pilate-y, she can’t even finish the f***ing name pilates, she so lazy and can’t even do it. Of course she’s not gonna be 20 years younger like she thinks. She looks it, and listen, I’d rather look it.’
They cut to Kris’ house where Vadim visits to draw her blood, as Kris says in confession, ‘Today is the day of the blood draw for the Horvath test and I’m interested to see if it represents the way I feel inside. So I can’t wait to see the results.’
Kim tells the camera while having her blood drawn, ‘Listen, I’m just happy to be alive in my heart, but in my soul, I wanna be 40.’
Vadim finishes and says, ‘You did it, wow, very impressive,’ though it’s not really clear what exactly is ‘impressive.’

Kourtney goes backstage and meets Mark Hoppus’ wife Skye who sees the baby Rocky, asking Penelope, ‘Are you taking good care of him?’ She says, ‘Yeah,’ and Kourtney says Penelope has been, ‘the best big sister.’
Travis comes back as Kourtney says he’s, ‘sound asleep,’ but he wakes up when Travis gets there and he tells him he loves him.
They get ready to head back as Kourtney tells Reign to take noise-canceling headphones with him.
Before Travis goes on, Kourtney says a prayer, stating, ‘Dear Lord Jesus, I pray that you keep a wall of fire around Travis. I pray that you keep him safe on the riser with the fire to protect his hands and let him have the best show, in Jesus’ name, Amen.’
The band takes the stage as Kourtney records some of the performance from the guarded VIP section.

Travis takes a break and goes down to kiss Kourtny in the VIP area, as Kourtney continues in confession, ‘Australia was the best decision. I’m so happy that we decided to come.’
The couple make out then Travis asks, ‘Are the kids having fun?’ Kourtney says, ‘So much fun. Reign was screaming when the fireworks went off.’

Kim adds, ‘I think it comes off like the way you explain it…’ as Kourtney continues, ‘Like you need help or something.’
‘Yeah, like you’re a little bit judgmental,’ Kim admits, as Kourtney says in confession, ‘I think there’s an analyzing other people part too, where like I would be like, “Ooh, I know why you’re doing that. It’s hard not to like restrain from telling the person. It comes across as being like a know-it-all, so I think I had that phase. It’s all a journey in growth, but I think I’m at the place now where I’m like, “Yeah, do you, whatever,” which I think is the unbothered place is the good place to get to. Unbothered. Kourtney is unbothered.’
Kim tells Kourtney, ‘I finally went to therapy,’ as Kourtney is shocked, saying only, ‘Stop!'

Kim adds in confession, ‘I would always say how calm I am and that’s my superpower, but my therapist felt like it’s a trauma response, of me remaining calm, in living a life that I always have to be in this fight or flight mode. It was such a light bulb moment.’
Kim tells Kourtney, ‘My thing is like OK I know people underestimate me so like it’s gonna feel really good just to like…’ as Kourtney says, ‘Prove them wrong.’
Kim confirms, ‘Yeah, but it’s like why? Like who cares?’ as she adds in confession, ‘When someone tells me not to do something that I planned on, I physically get like, “you’re getting in my way, and I will bulldoze whatever’s in my way, cause you’re not gonna tell me to change my schedule,” and I feel like that’s how I would get in relationships, like when (censored) started to tell me, “You work so much. Why don’t you just take the week off?” And I’m like, “Get out of here.” Take the week off? That was the beginning of the end.’
Kourtney says she’s excited for Kim to do therapy and Kim admits, ‘So I’m the new Kourtney,’ as Kourtney says, ‘The biggest thing is just getting to know yourself and why you make certain choices and why you operate that way and I think that once you know, it can help you make a better decision.’
A producer asks Kourtney if she thinks her whole family should do family therapy and she immediately says no.
‘Absolutely not. Everyone’s at a different place in the board game, you know, getting to the finish line, and I feel like, everyone just do your own s**t.’

Yeah, we’ve been traveling a lot, we’ve been super busy, so it’s just the best when we can all get together.’
Khloe arrives with her kids along with Kris and Corey then Kourtney and Travis, as Kourtney says in confession, ‘I love jumping into all the chaos of all the cousins and all the sisters and everyone, and I love jumping out and going back to my peaceful place at home.’
Kourtney says in confession, ‘We haven’t all been together and seen each other like this in awhile,’ while we see her give her 14-year-old son Mason a hug, the first time he’s been featured on the Hulu series.
Kourtney continues in confession, ‘Well, we’re almost all here. There’s always one that can’t make it, and tonight that’s Kendall.’
Kendall says in confession, ‘I’m so sorry I’m not at the dinner, but I hope that it’s all going perfectly and beautifully.’

Kris says, ‘Everyone except me deposit your phone in the basket,’ while she checks her phone and says into the camera, ‘Someone’s gotta have their phone in case of an emergency.’
They all start eating as Kris asks, ‘Travis, how was Australia?’ He says, ‘So good, so fun,’ as Kourtney says, ‘We got to see one koala, and we can’t touch it.’
Khloe says, ‘Koalas all have chlamydia, you can’t touch them,’ as Kris and Kourtney explain they have gonorrhea.
‘I think it’s chlamydia,’ Kourtney says, as Kourtney tries to continue but Kris says, ‘Isn’t that a sexually-transmitted disease?’

Kris starts and says, ‘The peak of my day is being here with all my grandkids and I think I had an extra peak today because True told me, she just randomly came up to me and told me how much she loved me.’
Khloe tells True, ‘What a nice girl,’ as Kris continues, ‘And that made my whole day and I told her that that was the most special thing I’ve heard all day. I don’t know if I really had a pit, just too much to do, and too little time.’
They show a montage of shots of Kris from this season including her selfie with Gerry the Golden Bachelor as Kris says in confession, ‘What an amazing year this has been. I feel so grateful, so thankful for all the blessings. Had a couple health scares, which was very nerve-wracking, but we’re through it. Kourtney had her baby boy Rocky and we’re so blessed and so happy he’s here, finally. And I still have a child, a.k.a. Kendall, that hasn’t had a baby yet. So you never know.’

Back at the dinner, Kim says, ‘The peak of my day is just being here with my babies and you guys,’ as Saint gives her a hug.
‘And then the pit of my day is that I have a fitting later and I’m really tired already,’ she says, as they show a montage of Kim’s season.
‘This year has been so good. I’m entering my actress era, I had no idea this was going to happen. I’ve taken some time off just to really focus on being the best mom I can be, and I just felt like, you know what, if I want to be a better mom, a better partner in the future, a better friend and sister, like if I just wanna better myself, why wouldn’t I go and see a therapist? I’ve learned so much, like now it’s kind of like, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve just watched the whole season of The Crown. ‘This year has been amazing for me. I’m at a really good place right now, just confidence wise, and having kids really helped me because they don't’ care what you look like, they don’t care what you wear. They just love you for who you are. My pets think I’m hot. Back at the dinner, Kourtney says, ‘My peak is that I was in my pajamas until 4:30 PM, chilling with Rocky,’ as they show footage of Kourtney this season.
‘And then the pit of my day is that I have a fitting later and I’m really tired already,’ she says, as they show a montage of Kim’s season.
‘This year was definitely about bringing new life into this world, moving in to Travis’ and being so grateful that I can not work as much and focus on raising my kids. When I started this year, one of my goals was not to overly plan things or be too controlling and to let go, and I think the biggest thing I learned is that it all comes together when you let God be in control,’ Kourtney says in confession.
Khloe says, ‘My peak is being number 7 in the world, OK, regardless of what you think,’ as they all cheer for her while they show footage of Khloe from this season.
‘This year has been crazy. I feel like every year is crazy. From sister fights to skiing to feeling traumatized to leave the gates, but now I’m feeling freer to leave the gates. My kids are getting older by the minute, it’s so sad. Being a mom is such a gift and the best part about my life. I’m turning 40, I’m fabulous, I don’t give a f**k, let’s go,’ Khloe says in confession.
Back at the dinner, Kris asks what they’re going to do for Khloe’s 40th birthday, as Khloe reminds them, ‘I’m 28, you guys.’
Kris says in confession, ‘The best part of all of it is my family is amazing and we’re not going anywhere.’
Back at the dinner, Kris raises her martini glass and says, ‘Everybody, cheers to us, and good health, lots of love, blessings, love you guys.’
Khloe adds in confession, ‘Stay tuned, guys. 40 is coming and it’s going to be epic,’ as the episode and the fifth season comes to a close.
During a post-credit scene, Khloe says, ‘You’re lucky I don’t eat red meat, because I would be doing a burger dirty if I did. Yum.’
A producer asks, ‘French fries?’ Khloe says, ‘Come on, who doesn’t like French fries? Sweet potato fries, wedge fries, any fries, potato wedges, especially barbecue chicken potato wedges, love. McDonald’s fries, I can go on and on and on. I love carbs. Remember, I used to be a much bigger girl. I have it in me. I love it. I can binge eat, like, uh. I think it’s shorter if you ask me what food do you not like?’
