Jonty Parkinson, nephew-in-law to the Match of the Day presenter from his marriage to his first wife Michelle, died of a crush injury to his abdomen after the incident in Oxfordshire. A inquest opened last week at Oxford Coroner's Court heard Mr Parkinson, of Coln St. Aldwyns, Cirencester, died on Friday September 6. The short hearing on September 25, before senior coroner Darren Salter, heard the incident happened while the 18-year-old was working as a tree surgeon. Social media in his local area has been awash with tributes while a GoFundMe has since been set up in the teenager's memory, raising more than £30,000.

The BBC's security correspondent Frank Gardner, who was shot and paralysed in Saudi Arabia in 2004, has vowed never to fly again with LOT Polish Airlines. Mr Gardner, 63, posted about the ordeal on X, formerly Twitter, to his 125,000 followers. He shared a photograph of his legs on the floor of his flight, writing: 'Wow. It's 2024 and I've just had to crawl along the floor of this LOT Polish airline to get to the toilet during a flight back from Warsaw as "we don't have onboard wheelchairs. It's airline policy". 'If you're disabled and you can't walk this is just discriminatory.'

The luxury cruise ship which set off from Belfast after unexpectedly spending four months in the city ahead of a three-year voyage is returning to the port again today. The Villa Vie Odyssey finally set sail last night following the lengthy delay, having become stranded at the dock since May due to unexpected repair works. The ship anchored off Northern Ireland last night, and was expected to set sail again today - but passengers have now been informed they will return to port. Those on board told BBC News that the mood on board remained positive despite the delay, which they were told was so final pieces of paperwork can be completed. The Villa Vie Odyssey left the port at 11.30pm last night - but the Belfast Harbour website said it will return at 1.30pm today, before leaving again at 11pm tonight.

Israel Defence Forces spokesman Avichay Adraee told Lebanese citizens to flee north of the Awali River, some 60 kilometres (36 miles) from the border, raising fears that the IDF may intend to send its forces deep into southern Lebanon. 'You must immediately head north of the Awali River to save yourselves, and leave your houses immediately,' said the statement. Israel's defence forces (IDF) claimed to have launched 'localised' cross-border raids on southern Lebanon late last night, which Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said were designed to prevent Hezbollah from conducting an 'October 7-style massacre'. 'Hezbollah turned Lebanese villages next to Israeli villages into military bases ready for an attack on Israel,' he said. However, Hezbollah and Lebanese officials have contested Israel's version of events, denying the claim that IDF troops had stepped foot on Lebanese soil. Meanwhile, Hezbollah launched waves of rockets at targets across Israel today.

An eight-year-old boy shot dead at a farm was pictured today as his junior football club paid tribute to the 'wee man'. Jay Cartmell suffered injuries to his head and face on land near the A66, north of Warcop in Cumbria on Saturday, with emergency services called at about 2.50pm. A firearm was secured at the scene by police and the youngster from Frizington, 45 miles away, was taken by air ambulance to hospital where he died overnight. A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, and taken to police custody before later being held on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. The man was then bailed as police continued their investigations.

Expert Jon Baddeley raced to advise the participant he could make a 'small fortune' - although he wasn't aware of its worth.  The fine art auctioneer whisked off to Clissold Park in North London, where he met a guest owning a stunning collection of vibrant music posters from the 1960s.

Pensioners who were kicked out of their 'dream homes' deemed unliveable are furious after their former properties were left to rot as part of a 'ghost town'. The residents on Highfield Close in Stretford, Greater Manchester, tried to dig their heels in when their landlords and council demanded they uproot their homes and community. The 38 one-bed houses on the cul-de-sac off Chester Road were built in 1947 and for many years the small council estate was home to a close-knit community of pensioners. But Trafford Housing Trust, which owns the homes, claimed the bungalows are situated within a 'high flood risk zone' and built with a 'solid floor construction that has created severe damp and mould issues'. The plan, they said, was to rehome the tenants and replace the bungalows with 'new high-quality homes'. So the elderly residents were booted out - but the shiny new houses never came and their old homes have been left to crumble.

William,  worked as an air ambulance pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance between March 2015 and July 2017, again sported his designer stubble - which is also a favourite of the sporting star.

Ioan Williams, 44, from near Caernarfon, north Wales, was shocked to discover his white Range Rover had been written off while parked in Manchester Airport's Meet and Greet service. On his return, he was horrified to find the driver's side wheel at an abnormal angle, when seven days previously the car 'didn't have a scratch on it'. Insurers quoted the repair at £15,800, meaning it would need to be written off.

F-35B stealth fighters from 809 Naval Air Squadron have joined HMS Prince of Wales in the North Sea for a month of training. The state-of-the-art jets, which cost close to £100m each and are packed with some of the world's most advanced weaponry and tech, touched down on the huge flight deck of the £3.5billion naval behemoth. They will be backed by counterparts from the RAF 's famed 617 Squadron, dubbed 'The Dambusters' for the unit's historic role blowing up Nazi dams in the Second World War. The last Royal Navy fast-jet to land on a British warship was in November 2010 when a Harrier from 800 Naval Air Squadron touched down on HMS Ark Royal before the fighters were scrapped weeks later.

The owner of the land David Askew believes it was attacked in connection with a long-running dispute he has been having with the council surrounding an access footpath on his land which connects to the beach.

The party took place at the Dell Care Home in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and it commemorate Margaret Cargan turning 100 and Mary Bryan and Elsie Hollis, who both toasted to becoming 95. The bus was carrying kids from the Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School in Uthai Thani province when it caught fire on a road in Pathum Thani province on the outskirts of Bangkok at around 12.38pm local time. Dramatic footage from the scene shows flames engulfing the entire vehicle as it burned under an overpass, huge clouds of dense black smoke billowing into the sky, with firefighters trying to put out the inferno. Shocking video footage has emerged showing the moment a rubbish truck full of waste exploded in a London binman's face after an empty gas bottle was crushed and blew up. The binman was hospitalised with dizziness and hearing issues as a result of the blast and the rubbish truck was totalled.

Dame Deborah James 's mother has paid tribute to her late daughter on what would been her 43rd birthday. Taking to Instagram, the cancer campaigner's mother, Heather James revealed a previously unseen clip of her daughter giving a touching speech in which she wondered about what the future held, at an event prior to her passing. Heather, 66, who is a gymnastics coach, was a strong support for her daughter as she battled bowel cancer, before passing away in June 2022. In the tribute posted to Instagram, she wrote: 'Happy Birthday Deborah on what would have been your 43rd birthday! You may be gone from our sight but will never be gone from our hearts. Your legacy lives on, not just in the work you've done, but in the lives you've touched.
