Awkward moment Olympic announcer confuses Serena Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian for her 'personal umbrella holder' during Paris opening ceremony

The 2024 Paris Olympics' opening ceremony broadcast took an awkward turn when a commentator referred to Serena Williams' husband, Alex Ohanian, as her personal 'umbrella holder.'

Despite his busy schedule in the world of business, the Reddit co-founder remains a family man and joined Williams as she jetted off to take part in the festivities in France.

As the tennis legend took the red carpet, rain started to pour on the parade of nations. As a result, Ohanian chivalrously held an umbrella over his wife.

'She looks absolutely incredible,' a commentator from Eurosport said. 'She's got someone just behind us holding an umbrella.'

'Those are the levels you aspire to,' she continued. 'To have an actual umbrella holder behind you.'

A Eurosport commentator called Alex Ohanian Serena Williams' personal 'umbrella holder'

Despite being mislabeled on the broadcast, Ohanian continued to be a gentleman to his stunning wife on the world stage.

In addition to the power couple, the cameras caught their six-year-old daughter Olympia posing on the red carpet in front of the Eifel Tower. Like her mother, Olympia also had her umbrella holder at the event.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Williams joked about being torn as her days as a competitor are behind her.

'I don't know if it's fun or if I'm a little jealous,' she quipped.

However, she expressed her excitement for young American tennis star Coco Gauff - who received the honor of being a flagbearer for the Stars and Stripes.

'It's amazing. Isn't that great? I'm so excited to see her tonight. I'm just so happy for her. Oh god, I love it.'
