Furious Notre Dame players' locker room meltdown revealed after loss to Ohio State in CFP championship

The Notre Dame locker room reportedly descended into chaos following the Fighting Irish's loss to Ohio State in Monday's CFP national championship.

The Buckeyes held off a thrilling comeback from Notre Dame to win 34-23 in Atlanta on Monday night.

Notre Dame players have been accused of shouting and swearing at reporters post-game, while coaches are alleged to have warned journalists not to ask certain questions.

That is according to USA Today reporter Dan Wolken, who branded the scenes 'bizarre' and wrote on social media: 'Amateur hour'.

'If the locker room is open, which it is for the CFP, reporters should be able to go in there and respectfully ask questions without being sworn at,' he said.

'If a player doesn’t want to talk, that’s fine.'

Reporters' access to team locker rooms has come under the spotlight in recent months.

Back in October, the NFL Players Association called for change, claiming locker room conversations were an invasion of players' privacy.

Reporters regularly mingle with players in the locker room on game day and on practice days but the NFLPA branded the policy 'outdated'.

'The locker room opening *is* the media access for players who aren’t going to the podium,' Wolken added.

'If the CFP wants to do it a different way, fine. But this is how they do it, everyone is well aware of that and there generally aren’t any issues.'

The Buckeyes had their own slice of post-game chaos, when a cart carrying head coach Ryan Day, quarterback Will Howard, and linebacker Cody Simon crashed into a stadium wall.

Ohio State triumphed in front of a star-studded 77,660-strong crowd at Mercedes-Benz Stadium that included LeBron James, Travis Scott, Ezekiel Elliott, Bryce Harper and Anthony Mackie.

The showdown between two of college football's most storied programs also featured a message from president Donald Trump, who was sworn in on Monday, that was broadcast by ESPN at halftime.
