Mountainside cabin once owned by Burt Reynolds sells for a staggering $3 MILLION - and it is just a stone's throw away from iconic Deliverance set

A mountainside home once owned by the late Burt Reynolds has sold for a whopping $2.9 million - with the stunning abode situated near the filming location of an iconic scene in 1972 backwoods thriller Deliverance.

Located in Highlands, North Carolina, the four-bedroom, six-bathroom property is about an hour's drive away from the town of Sylva.

It was Sylva that served as the backdrop of the pivotal opening sequence in Deliverance, in which the four main characters, all businessmen from Atlanta, encounter a rundown town while en route to kick off a canoe trip on a nearby river. 

It's also where the cinematically lauded 'dueling banjos' segment took place, in which businessman Drew (Robby Cox) and a local inbred boy (Billy Redden) engage in an impromptu banjo jam session.

Burt's performance in 1972's backwoods thriller Deliverance made him a household name

As for Burt, his career had been on the rise since his breakout role in 1962 Western TV series Gunsmoke. 

But his performance as macho businessman Lewis Medlock in Deliverance finally made him a household name.

Other notable appearances later on included The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights and The Smokey and the Bandit trilogy.

Tragically, in 2018, Burt - who built up a portfolio of 14 properties - died of a heart attack at the age of 82.

It's reported that Burt, along with ex-wife Loni Anderson, originally bought the property while shooting Deliverance in North Carolina, having fallen in love with the area.

The home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright protégé Jim Fox and completed the same year that Deliverance premiered. 

Inside, each room is decorated in a typical log cabin style, with wooden ceilings and walls encompassing every nook and cranny.

Even the bed frames were carved out of tree trunks.

Its façade reflects a modernist influence on the architecture, a moderating contrast with the traditional cabin aesthetic.

A wrap-around porch also holds a separate al fresco seating, an outdoor dining area as well as a tranquil waterfall running into a small pond. 

Because the hone is nestled in deep in the rural surroundings, privacy is always ensured.

The previous owners, who moved in sometime after Burt sold it, lived there for 23 years and spent their time enhancing the home, including adding an in-ground heated plunge pool, serving bar and wine cellar.

Located in the Nantahala National Forest, the small town of Highlands has only 1,000 residents.

With Nashville, Charleston and Charlotte all only a short drive away, there's an endless amount of activities waiting.

Steve Martin, Stephen King and Nicole Kidman are also said to have homes nearby.

The listing was sold by Jody Lovell at Sotheby's International Realty in late July, after a brief time on the market.
