York City climbed back above Barnet to the top of the National League table after a comfortable home win over Southend.

Substitute Dipo Akinyemi broke the deadlock in the second half after stepping off the bench.

Headers from Callum Howe and substitute David Ajiboye sealed the win, which lifted the Minstermen above the Bees on goal difference.

York twice went close in the first half through Tyrese Sinclair, who blazed over the crossbar after rounding goalkeeper Colin Andeng-Ndi, and then saw a header cleared off the line.

Akinyemi replaced Sinclair just after the hour-mark and two minutes later turned in a rebound after Howe's header had hit the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Howe headed home from Daniel Batty's corner at the near post, and Ajiboye nodded in the third with 14 minutes left after another Batty corner had been flicked on by Malachi Fagan-Walcott.
