Do we need to ‘humanize’ Pharma? My thoughts have been percolating since my return from Pharmageddon Europe a couple of weeks ago. One of the key take-homes was that Pharma is no good at using effective storytelling to communicate the info that matters. I find this so disheartening. Pharma should have this nailed. Pharma should be one of the best storytellers out there! My initial reaction was that this shouldn’t be a key take-home from one of the most refreshing and disruptive events that I have attended. Storytelling is as old as humankind, it’s not ‘disruptive’, but maybe that’s the issue. If we believe that we are naturally good storytellers, then have we become complacent? Some of Pharma’s target audiences who attended Pharmageddon made it crystal clear that the status quo is not good enough. Pharma speaks one language, patients another, doctors yet another, and there is frustration that this remains the case. This is (surely!) a call-to-action for Pharma to do better? We all want communications that are understandable; that are clear and consistent; that mean something to us. We are, after all, all human – aren’t we? #medicalcommunications, #Pharma, #AMICULUM, #Pharmageddon Dr Azmain Chowdhury, Elly Aylwin-Foster, Carole S.

    Commercial Lead at AMICULUM

🤲 The power of connections in rare diseases 🤲 On Wednesday, Izzy Halliday and I had the pleasure of representing our AMICULUM rare disease team at the Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase. This event brought together patient groups, academia, and industry to share some of the latest advancements in the rare disease space.   Through the conversations we had during the networking sessions and the lightning talks, I was reminded of the true power of connections in advancing knowledge, care and finding cures for people with rare diseases. It often just takes 1 or 2 people that truly care to come together and take meaningful action to advance scientific discovery and development for these conditions.   👏James Oakley founded Keep Me Breathing after his son Casper was born with #CCHS, a life-threatening condition causing dependence on ventilation. Realizing the lack of research due to commercial viability, James leveraged media, business, and healthcare collaborations to raise awareness and funds to support research projects, including the build of The Breathing Pacemaker, the first-ever treatment designed for CCHS using existing technology. 👏Stacey Paddon through the Yellow Brick Road Project has connected families impacted by #HNRNPH2 to contribute to the understanding of the disorder, fund research, and raise awareness of HNRNPH2 mutations in the general public and scientific communities. In only 8 years, they've gone from discovering the gene causing HNRNPH2 to administering the first treatment to a patient last week! 🙌 👏 Bruce Bloom from Healx in his talk about #AI drug development, spoke about how important the patient voice is in understanding what patients and families really want and need during the drug discovery phase. For some it isn’t just about the cure, it’s helping them and their loved ones sleep through the night. What also surprised me is that some patients and families said that they didn’t appreciate how important their voice was and that events like this had given them a lightbulb moment. In summary, in the fight against rare diseases, every connection counts. In a world with limited disease information, expert support, funding and resources, patients and their families often become the experts. Without them and people who truly care, we wouldn’t have made the progress that we have today. This being said, with 95% of rare diseases lacking approved treatments; the average time for an accurate diagnosis being 4·8 years; and about 30% of children with a rare disease not making it to 5 years of age; we still have mountains to climb. I take my hat off to Beacon who in the spirit of connections, expertly facilitated a networking event that brought together key stakeholders passionate about driving change. I look forward to using our learnings to continue to drive passion and change for patients through our work at AMICULUM. #RareShowcase24! #RareDiseases #PatientAdvocacy #ScientificDiscovery #HealthcareInnovation #Collaboration

We are proud to announce our partnership with LuCE (Lung Cancer Europe), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about lung cancer. AMICULUM is supporting LuCE’s 2024 ‘Get Checked’ awareness campaign, which runs throughout October, thanks to an introduction via Passion Partnership CIC. Our teams have been collaborating with LuCE to provide consultancy and creative services to ensure this campaign makes a real impact. Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Europe, and by supporting awareness campaigns like this one, we hope to make a significant difference. Stay updated on the campaign by following LuCE on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram over the coming weeks!
