⛈ People in Valencia faced a year of rainfall in 24h Following discussions with Zurich Insurance in Spain, as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC and the Spanish Red Cross, our Urban Climate Resilience Program partners in Valencia, we activated our Crisis Response and Recovery Fund to support immediate relief efforts driven by the Spanish Red Cross. Water levels rose rapidly, catching many residents off guard. Emergency services, including the Spanish Red Cross, mobilized quickly to assist with evacuations and provide shelter, essential supplies, first aid and psychological support to the thousands of people affected. Spain experienced its biggest floods in decades, and the impact is immense. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and over a thousand have been forced to leave their homes and are now in temporary shelters. Here's how the Spanish Red Cross is responding: ⛑️ 1,667 volunteers and staff 🍽️ 60,852 food supplies provided 🩹 21,000 hygiene kits and 1,973 blankets given 🏠 Supporting 3,129 people in 10 emergency shelters 🚑 78 vehicles deployed, including ambulances and rescue boats Thank you teams for your life-saving work.
