Major news for South Australia! China Southern Airlines will resume services between Adelaide and Guangzhou this December. Departing Guangzhou the night of Wednesday 11th December, the first flight lands in Adelaide on Thursday 12th December at 9:55am. Operating on a Boeing Dreamliner 787, China Southern Airlines will offer three direct services from Adelaide to Guangzhou every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Deepening the relationship between South Australia and China, the relaunch presents significant opportunities for trade and tourism. The announcement was made at Adelaide Airport this morning by South Australia Premier, Peter Malinauskas, Acting Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Adelaide, Mr Lijun Pi, Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, Minister for Trade and Investment, Joe Szakacs, China Southern Regional General Manager Australia & NZ, Mr Zhixing Sun, and Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox. Adelaide Airport is so proud to have been part of John Ward's life.   John was a director of Adelaide and Parafield Airports for 22 years before he passed away last month. He brought deep aviation experience having been the Managing Director of Qantas from 1989 to 1993 and working for our national carrier for 25 years.    John’s calm, solid wisdom demonstrated through intellect, commerciality and heart was unique. He helped steer our business through a new terminal build, our recent terminal expansion and through more challenging times such as the COVID pandemic. He was an ardent supporter of our people and embodied and drove our company’s values.   It was an honour and privilege to have known John and his legacy will live on throughout our business. We think about him all the time.

This morning, we launched the first Adelaide to Proserpine service with Jetstar. The inaugural route is taking off just in time for Father’s Day, with the first flight departing this Sunday. The first direct service between Adelaide and Whitsunday Coast Airport in Proserpine will operate three days a week, creating 58,000 seats per year to one of Queensland’s most popular tropical destinations. Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox, said it was exciting to attract yet another Jetstar service. “We’re excited that Jetstar is connecting two great destinations offering distinct travel experiences.
