[edit]Keeping deprecated redirect IDs?
[edit]I think storing redirects as "deprecated"->"redirect" for this property is just not really useful or helpful since every rename of a title on TMDB creates new letterboxd IDs, making the previous one a redirect and for one film there could potentially be dozens of redirects. Over time, some older redirects can turn into actual IDs to newer films, causing further problems. From personal checking over several months, about 30 such cases reappear every month. So I think the best practice would be to just remove the redirect IDs, changing them to the actual ID. Solidest (talk) 08:20, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- What is the use of removing them? However unlikely, there may be someone trying to look up an entity using an old ID. Why take that away? – Máté (talk) 13:12, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- To avoid endless cluttering of the property with auto-generated variants, including those that appear the next day when a user on TMDB adds an error to the name or vandalises it. Currently we have Internet Game Database game ID (P5794), where IDs work exactly the same way, and where outdated slug ids are also being removed by the bots, which take care of automatically replacing old ones with new ones. With Letterboxd we only have one bot (User:AddLetterboxdFilmIdBot + I run the same script from time to time as the bot is currently stopped) which only adds new IDs if there are no Letterboxd IDs in the item at all - it is not designed to update the old ones. P.S. You can actually check all of these outdated slugs on Mix-n-match - https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/2043 where after a few of my updates there are already 48k deprecated ones (98% of them are redirects). I don't think it's reasonable to store it all on Wikidata. Solidest (talk) 12:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
