I absolutely love the NTG4! Coming from the NTG2, with not too many features, to this is probably the best jump i've made to up my sound qaulity.
Having that extra feature for brightening up the sound a bit when for excample using a blimp or any other sort of wind-shield, is a blessing in post. I often find myself not having to tweak the sound in post, which is a huge time saver on projects where i've got a deadline.
My only wish is if would've been possible to use some kind of battery, because this thing is draining the battery on my tascam dr-60d like crazy (and the dr-60d alredy has pretty bad internal batterylife). This is just a wish-to-have though.
AND THE PRICE!
I've tried the NTG3, and that mic is probebly one of the absolute best mics out there. DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO BE AS GOOD AS THE HIGHER END PRODUCTS! it certenly isnt. Pricewise, this microphone beates the crap out of the NTG3. For one third of the price, this is unbeateble, i think.
So if you are a filmmaker (i'm saying this because i've never used this for anything else than on-location shoots) that've got 200-300 dollars to spend, i would highly recommend this thing.
One thing to note: When i first got this, i didnt have the crew to use it correctly. So if you are planning on buying any kind of shotgun-microphone, make shure that you have the right sized crew or at least a good rig setup.
Me, personally, i'm doing mostly run'n gun shoots, but you could probably easily use this, with no crew, if you do a lot of locked down shots.
