James Robert Hope-Scott was born on 15 July 1812.1 He was the son of General Hon. Sir Alexander Hope and Georgiana Brown.1 He married, firstly, Charlotte Harriet Jane Lockhart, daughter of John Gibson Lockhart and Charlotte Sophia Scott, on 19 August 1847.1 He married, secondly, Lady Victoria Alexandrina Fitzalan-Howard, daughter of Henry Granville Fitzalan-Howard, 14th Duke of Norfolk and Hon. Augusta Mary Mina Catherine Lyons, on 7 January 1861.1 He died on 29 April 1873 at age 60.1
