Born on November 10, 2002, in Tuljapur, Maharashtra, Rajvardhan S Hangargekar is a young bowling all-rounder who came through the ranks of the ICC Under-19 World Cup-winning squad in 2022 with his all-round exploits for the Indian team.

Known for his quirky run-up and fiery pace, the sturdy Hangargekar can also bat lower down the order by landing some muscular blows and can be a future candidate for the coveted No.8 spot in the limited-overs formats.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar Domestic Career

Rajvardhan Hangargekar made his T20 debut for Maharashtra against Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 season. He did not have a debut to remember as he went wicketless for 36 runs in 4 overs and got out for a duck as Maharashtra was bundled out for 98 and lost the match by 60 runs.

In the following month, Hangargekar made his List-A debut for Maharashtra against Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 season. Unlike his T20 debut, he impressed on his List-A debut as he picked up a four-wicket haul as Maharashtra won their opening match of the season by 59 runs with their skipper Ruturaj Gaiwad scoring a century in the first innings as well. The Maharashtrian all-rounder had a wholehearted moment when his skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad shared his ‘Player of The Match’ trophy with him where the latter took the cricketing world by storm by hitting 7 sixes in an over and finishing on an unbeaten double century and the former took a five-wicket haul against Uttar Pradesh in the quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

Hangargekar made his much-awaited First-Class debut for Maharashtra against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season and made a mark in his very first innings by picking up the crucial wickets of Nitish Rana, his Under-19 CWC skipper Yash Dhull and his Chennai Super Kings teammate Simarjeet Singh. Though he could not do much with the bat, he picked up another three wickets in the second innings.

Hangargekar featured in the India A squad to play in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023. He led India A to the runners-up position by picking up 10 wickets in 4 innings and was the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, behind his teammate Nishant Sindhu. He also picked up a five-wicket haul against Pakistan A in the group stage of the tournament.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar IPL Career

Following his exploits in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022, Rajvardhan Hangargekar was snaffled up by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 1.75 crores. He was benched the whole season and made his IPL debut against the Gujarat Titans in the opening match of IPL 2023.

He was impressive on debut by picking up three scalps for 36 runs, including the wickets of Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudharsan, and Vijay Shankar but the Super Kings lost that match.

In his next encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants, Hangargekar conceded 24 runs in 2 overs. Post that, he was benched the whole season to accommodate more experienced pacers as the Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title in a thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against the defending champions Gujarat Titans.

In IPL 2024 as well, he did not get game time to prove his worth and was seen warming the bench.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar shot to fame in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 when the India U-19 team won the trophy by defeating England U-19 in the final and sealed their fifth U-19 title. He picked up 5 wickets in 6 games at an economy of 3.67. His fiery pace at the Under-19 level grabbed a few eyeballs from the cricketing world as he clocked 141.7 in the semifinal against Australia U-19.

Predominantly known as a bowling all-rounder, his batting exploits came to the limelight when he smashed a hat-trick of sixes off Muzamil Sherzad of Ireland U-19 in the final over to give a fitting finish as he ended up with an unbeaten 39 off just 17 balls.
