I’m the only one in my family with a large chest (by age 14, I was a cup size DD)—which meant that when it was time to buy my first bra, I was on my own. Despite well-meaning family members and saleswomen trying to guide me in the right direction, I spent most of my high school years searching for the right fit. I tried everything from paper-thin wireless bralettes to ultra-padded underwire options that had more buckles than my belt collection (and even a nursing bra, once). But many were ugly, uncomfortable, or expensive, so I often left empty-handed and stuck wearing my never-fail sports bras day to day.
I remember on one particularly long day of dragging myself around the mall, I finally gave up. I sent one bra fitter into the back of a store to dig for “something that might work,” then slipped back into my sweater, and snuck out before she could return.
Fast-forward to a few months ago, when my Instagram ads started featuring Skims Fits Everybody Scoop Bralette ($34). I was curious—and as a size 34F who’s spent thousands of dollars on undergarments, I can be pretty picky. My list of must-haves includes adjustable shoulder straps, a snug band that doesn’t cut off my air supply, and a near-invisible profile under T-shirts.
Lightweight and super stretchy, the Skims wireless bralette couldn’t be more different from the bulky styles I used to depend on for the support I needed. I was skeptical that it would provide enough lift…. But hundreds of happy customers were leaving five-star reviews for Kim Kardashian’s creation, and I needed to find out why.
I’ll admit it: I was influenced to take the plunge. I bought three Fits Everybody Scoop Bralettes to try for myself and lived in them for two months to see if they’re really worth the hype. Here’s what I think.
