Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times The show is an encyclopedia of styles, anthologically diverse, offering drama, comedy, romance, suspense, alien strangeness and Earthly familiarity. Dec 23, 2024 Full Review Fiona Sturges Financial Times If there is an absence of menace, once a hallmark of the series, there are still some big emotions, most notably the loneliness of a Doctor adrift without a companion following the departure last spring of Millie Gibson’s Ruby. Rated: 4/5 Dec 23, 2024 Full Review Stephen Robinson AV Club “Joy To The World” offers enough Christmas cheer to make longtime fans at least feel like they spent an hour with an old mate, but future installments should work harder on making new pals. Rated: B- Dec 20, 2024 Full Review James Whitbrook io9.com For the most part it works, thanks to stellar performances from Gatwa and Coughlan, and will particularly strike a bittersweet chord for people going through Christmas without loved ones. Dec 23, 2024 Full Review David Opie Digital Spy Without being able to go into any specifics, just know that the final moments of the special let it down – it's almost like a completely different person wrote the endearing middle segment. Rated: 2/5 Dec 22, 2024 Full Review Robert Anderson IGN Movies Amid the inventive premise of a Time Hotel, “Joy To The World” delightfully shifts gears to explore the Doctor’s human side. Phil P Weak and religiously dangerous Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review John D Interesting premise, enjoyable, slightly rushed conclusion Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Aden A I didn't know what to expect with this but I enjoyed it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Jay L I just can’t get behind Ncuti Doctor, he seems to have a limited range as a actor… I really wanted to like him but I just don’t… also writing is terrible what happened to Doctor who 😢 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Starr H We're loving the new Doctor Who with Ncuti Gatwa and all of the great cast. I seriously hope it can survive a second season. Ruby Sunday was an amazing companion for the Doctor and it's gonna be tough replacing her this year. Big shoes. This episode was a bit lackluster for me. I feel Doctor Who is at it's best when it takes big swings and chances and the stakes are very high. I just didn't feel the same for the Christmas episode and it was wild that it had no cameos for the Christmas episode. From what I remember from the last few, it was pretty epic so for this one to be "just another episode" really kind of threw me for a loop. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Lisa W I so want this show to work. Love Ncutti and it was great, funny and edgy up to the last bit which I predicated and found a bit cheesy. I hope the new series is worth the wait. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
