Surreal and unsettling, A Different Man overcomes an occasionally tenuous narrative grasp by virtue of its bold, provocative approach to serious themes.

Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald An audacious and mordantly funny attempt to analyse a subject that’s so often regarded as taboo. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian It’s worth watching for Pearson’s performance. The karaoke scene — which seems almost mandatory in any comedy these days — is a highlight. Rated: 3/5 Oct 26, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) From the get-go, Aaron Schimberg is asking the right questions about prejudice and repulsion. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 25, 2024 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia It frames the issue of prejudice and self-acceptance with a chameleon-like performance from Sebastian Stan, but its narrative gradually weakens as it remains parked in a redundant and futile zone. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Dec 27, 2024 Full Review Mitchell Beaupre The Film Stage Aaron Schimberg presents a multi-faceted look at not only disability but identity at large, how these superficial alterations mean nothing when we don’t actualize change from within, and how much of our lives are rooted in perception Rated: A- Dec 22, 2024 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? A Different Man proves a relevant commentary on our world's penchant to "other" those outside a given norm, but also an increasingly zany satire on our ability to "other" ourselves. Robert O Interesting concept but I did not enjoy the execution. Once Sebastian Stan undergoes his transformation, you stop rooting for his character. I’m guessing that was the director’s goal, but I want to see a movie where you root for the main character to redeem himself and learn life lessons. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review Shannon P Interesting, innovative, kinda out there! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/16/24 Full Review William B This film has a message and delivers it quite well. The theme reminds one of a morality play updated. It is worth seeing although I wouldn't see it twice. It delivers it's message that well. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review EM Surreal and subversive, a dark comedy that challenges you to find the absurdity in very unexpected places. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Cyndi Great movie! It definitely makes you think and never can tell where it’s headed. Adam Pearson is great! Sebastian Stan is unbelievable. The way he embodies Edward throughout the film is spectacular. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Eric Y. Great film very smart Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
