Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park is home to some of the best trout fishing in the United States. Come enjoy recently added amenities that make fishing in and around our historic site easier than ever.

Fishing pole checkout

Fishing rods can be checked out for free whenever Historic Forestville is open to the public.

We have spinning, casting, and fly fishing rods available. An ID is all that’s needed to check out a pole.

All fishing poles must be returned at least 30 minutes before closing.

Practice casting course

Don’t feel like fishing, or want a little casting practice before you get in the water?

Try the practice casting golf game at Historic Forestville to test your skills and challenge your friends.

Print out a scorecard before you come, or pick one up at the front desk!

River trail

Explore the quarter-mile river trail that starts behind the large Historic Forestville barn and runs parallel to the Root River.

You’ll see a variety of plant life on the way to a small beach at the end of the trail.

The beach provides easy access for fly fishing and swimming.
