Now, and that means the summer season is underway, the warmer weather brings with it a new set of illnesses and injuries to be aware of. So joining us today and Wellness with Wood is Amber Davenport, regional clinical director for Well Now Urgent Care. Amber, thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. So this kind of this type of year really brings back some of the things that you guys see every year. Let's start with some of the basics like heat and humidity. Those things will affect people. And what do you see in your clinic? Absolutely. So I mean, first and foremost, we need to think about those heat related injuries and illness. So that can range from the common sunburn from, you know, being out in the sun for too long or not protecting ourselves with good SPF 30 or above, but also heat exhaustion and, you know, in the severe cases of that heat stroke. So really just being aware and making sure you stay hydrated throughout the summer. And especially if you're in the midday sun from like 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, those are the times when it's hottest and you're most prone to those injuries. And is urgent care a great place to go for something like that? That's something you guys can handle. Absolutely. Yeah. So we take care of kind of all of those non life threatening illnesses and injuries at the urgent care when we get into those complicated issues with like heat stroke where you're maybe losing consciousness and then usually we're requiring a little bit higher level in the emergency room. But a lot of the non, you know, acute or non life threatening injuries we take care of at the urgent care. All right, we're kind of accidents. Are you seeing in the summer? Oh boy, I just I'm thinking jungle gym. Yeah, well, that's funny. My daughter just fell off of the playground jungle gym and hurt her elbow this. Yeah. Last week. So yeah, X-rays, you know, and stitches are always kind of a right of childhood. But we have lots of accidents that occur throughout the summer, even, like Poison Ivy exposure. The biggest thing is preventing them. So, you know, make sure that we're wearing our bike helmets, following traffic laws, especially with, you know, Michigan's at its best in the summer and, you know, the water support. We're out on our boats and kayaking, so usually use those life jackets and make sure that you're not, you know, swimming or leaving your children to swim unattended. Yeah. One of the things that we're seeing more and more and earlier and earlier in the season is tick bites. Is that hot topic? Yeah. So ticks were seen so much. And that's a very common thing that we see in the urgent care. You know, definitely with the change in the weather and the change in the climate, we see so many more bites, so really preventing. Take preventing the tick from biting you is the best precaution for preventing tick borne illness. You know, wearing those long pants, your socks pulled into your pants can help light colored clothing so that you can see see a tick if it's crawling on you trying to stay out of those brushy high grass areas. Wearing a good bug repellent that you know maybe has DEET in it, which is safe for kids six months and older. But also, I mean, if you do get bit by a tick, making sure that. You try to remove it as quickly as possible. Our chance of Lyme disease is significantly reduced if you can get it off within 24 hours. But if you're unsure of how long it's been attached or maybe you developed a rash around that tick bite, especially a bullseye rash or those target lesions come into the urgent care seek medical attention while now is local around the community. And we, you know, would definitely evaluate that because a lot of times we need to do a prophylactic dose of the antibiotic. OK, maybe you have more clinics now. Me too, he has 16 clinics in Michigan and we're continually growing. So we also have on online availability where you can schedule your appointments online and we have a telehealth providers. So you can do you know, one of the good things that came out of COVID, you can do some of the your appointments online in the comfort of your home upgrade. One of the good things.
