About us

At Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust patient care is at the heart of everything we do. We serve around 600,000 people and run three hospitals - Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester – as well as community services and specialist services for which we are recognised nationally and internationally. We also provide care at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover and outpatient services in Alton, Bordon and Romsey. Below is some great information about what we do at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: • In the NHS Staff Survey, our own staff recommended us as good places to work and be treated. • We hold an annual Director of Nursing Awards and monthly WOW awards for staff. • Our staff are encouraged to innovate and improve patient care – we are active in research and development. • We have some of the lowest infection rates in England. • Patients rate us better than average on privacy, respect and dignity and also praise the cleanliness of our hospitals. • Our stroke service is recognised as one of the best performing in the UK. • We are one of only two centres in the UK treating the rare abdominal cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei and we are leaders in the field of liver and colorectal cancers. • We are pioneering intraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer. Updates

  • Pregnant women in Hampshire and Isle of Wight, take note! Earlier this week, a new national RSV vaccine was offered to women who are 28+ weeks pregnant. 🤰 RSV is a common virus that infects around 90% of children by age two, but it can lead to severe lung infections like pneumonia in newborns. This new vaccine can help protect your baby before they’re even born. 🛡️ Sarah Mozely, Midwifery Matron at Hampshire Hospitals, says, "This RSV vaccine has been robustly tested and proven to help newborns fight off the virus through maternal vaccination." If you’re eligible, don’t miss out. Speak to your midwife if you have any questions or concerns. 💬 👉 https://ow.ly/oluL50TgcoC

  • WOW! Congratulations to Evandressa Lumsden! Through the WOW! Awards, we at Hampshire Hospitals recognise our incredible staff’s dedication to living our iCARE values. We’re always aiming to deliver the highest quality services to our patients and visitors and our staff are a vital asset to us in achieving this. This week, we’re highlighting Evandressa. Read part of the wonderful nomination: “A request was placed for any Portuguese speaking staff to support a patient. Eva volunteered without knowing the situation. Eva was asked to attend the delivery suite to support a patient in labour. Eva translated the process to the patient staying present during medical procedures so the patient could understand what was going on. Eva works in an administration role within the Trust and is not used to being in a clinical environment. I think it's fair to say that Eva felt a bit woozy in the situation; however, that did not stop her from putting the patient first. Mother and Baby are healthy, and I am sure the mother felt much more reassured and at ease knowing what was happening during a distressing time. Well done Eva - you truly have gone above and beyond. Compassion at its finest!” Take a look at more winners and nominations at https://lnkd.in/dMabSCSE

  • Your feedback is important for us to review our services. This weeks #FeedbackFriday is from a patient at our Winchester hospital who wanted to highlight some of our wonderful #TeamHHFT colleagues! 💙 Read more below: “From the smiling receptionist, to the caring nurses and trainees. To the consultants and radiologists, my experience was speedy and cheery with care thoroughly considered by all staff. One of the lovely staff members was going off shift and came by to say goodbye. I felt that my condition was taken very seriously and the top care and opinions/results were provided."

  • In our latest Clinical Insight, professor Matt Inada-Kim explores the importance of building successful #careers in medicine: a timely message for August as we welcomed the next generation of doctors to begin work across Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As Matt points out, decades spent providing clinical care are extremely demanding; promoting pathways into leadership facilitates retention of valuable experience and seniority, something that is vital because “if you look at the long-term workforce plan published by the NHS, it is wholly dependent on having enough senior clinicians to train and #mentor the incoming cohorts.”

  • WOW! Congratulations to Diagnosis & Treatment Centre Team and Troy Sykes. Through the WOW! Awards, we at Hampshire Hospitals recognise our incredible staff’s dedication to living our iCARE values. We’re always aiming to deliver the highest quality services to our patients and visitors and our staff are a vital asset to us in achieving this. This week, we’re highlighting the team and Troy. Read part of the wonderful nomination: “I was an inpatient in the Diagnosis & Treatment Centre, both having and recovering from my operation / surgery. I found all the personnel working in the DTC excellent at their jobs and I do mean everyone (this includes cleaners, receptionists, auxiliary staff, clerical staff, nurses, senior nurses, doctors, consultants, anaesthetists and surgeons). The team working in the DTC and their high quality of care is a real credit to the hospitals reputation. The most outstanding first-class professional service and care was provided by Troy Sykes. He was friendly, helpful, caring, calm, positive, effective and efficient, but most of all professional at all times. His genuine desire to provide the very best care really was outstanding. The prestige that Troy brought / brings to BNHH is immense and goes way beyond his pay grade. He has a genuine desire to help and care for people. This high standard of care, whilst hoped for, is not always forthcoming in the NHS.” Take a look at more winners and nominations at https://lnkd.in/dMabSCSE

  • We value every piece of feedback we receive as it is important for us to review our services. Today's #FeedbackFriday is from a patient who received treatment at Winchester hospital. They wanted to highlight some of our wonderful #TeamHHFT colleagues! 💙 Read more below: "I was seen very promptly on arrival at emergency department with a broken wrist. The emergency nurse practitioner explained what would happen with regards to x-rays, seeing consultant, manipulating bone back into place and aftercare. He remained with me throughout my stay. A very caring and reassuring man giving me confidence. The Orthopaedic Consultant explained how he was going to manipulate the bone back into place. He tried twice each time taking care and constantly asking how the pain was. I felt reassured that I was getting the best care. I can't thank these two men enough for their care, attention and professionalism."

  • WOW! Congratulations to Francis Smith! Through the WOW! Awards, we at Hampshire Hospitals recognise our incredible staff’s dedication to living our iCARE values. We’re always aiming to deliver the highest quality services to our patients and visitors and our staff are a vital asset to us in achieving this. This week, we’re highlighting Francis. Read part of the wonderful nomination: “During this challenging time when several of us were absent due to illness and family challenge, he stepped up and took on additional responsibilities, ensuring that the team continued to operate smoothly. His acts of compassion went beyond just taking on extra work. He took the time to check in on each team member individually, offering words of encouragement and support. It was evident that he genuinely cared about our well-being and wanted to alleviate any additional stress we may have been feeling. Personally, his act of compassion touched me deeply. I was going through a particularly rough time with my illness, and his understanding and flexibility in accommodating my needs made a world of difference. His empathy and willingness to listen, even when he was busy juggling numerous tasks, made me feel valued and supported.” Take a look at more winners and nominations at https://lnkd.in/dMabSCSE
