Walt Disney and Pixar topped the domestic box office for the third straight weekend, as Inside Out 2 became the first 2024 film to cross the $1 billion threshold in ticket sales. It is also the fastest animated release to ever gross $1 billion—doing so in only 19 days, Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Barron’s. And it’s the biggest box office haul since last summer’s blockbuster Barbie, from Warner Bros. Discovery. Barbie surpassed the $1 billion mark 19 days after its June 19, 2023, global release date, and 17 days after its June 21, 2023, domestic release date, Dergarabedian said. Inside Out 2 hauled in another $57.4 million this weekend and an estimated $469.3 million cumulatively in the U.S. and Canada through Sunday, according to Comscore. The PG-rated film, the sequel to the 2015 animated hit that won the 2016 Oscar for Best Animated Film, grossed another $545.5 million internationally, also topping the global box office, according to BoxOfficeMojo. Inside Out 2 becomes only the 11th animated release to gross $1 billion. Eight of those 11 films are Walt Disney/Pixar titles. “The global sprint to $1 billion that [Inside Out 2] has enjoyed is most impressive, and despite an ever-growing number of films that have achieved this lofty goal, it’s an amazing feat and puts the film in the pantheon of top grossing animated films of all time,” Dergarabedian told Barron’s. ... #BoxOffice #WeekendMovies #InsideOut2

Lumping the news of the Woody Woodpecker Netflix Hybrid movie and the theatrical movie IF into one post here because I'd like to note that both are surely marketing themselves as family co-view with a lean towards the older with their retro-brand (Woody) and star-studded casting (If) that matter more to the grown-ups than to kids. Also, I'm hopeful to see more hybrids like this following the double success of the Sonic the Hedgehog films. Hybrid naturally offers more unique marketing, story-telling, and fresh visuals that may help differentiate from their fully animated near-cousins in the film world. Also, brands that already have saturation in the animated marketplace in TV and/or film can find fresh returns by creating the best-of-both-worlds - their characters animated, but mixing with live-action counterparts. #animation #cartoons #hybridmovie #movies #film IF (trailer marketing stunt) https://lnkd.in/dqKAZVQR Woody Woodpecker (release date) https://lnkd.in/dAFcgiVR

"Inside Out 2" has become the first movie of 2024 to top $1 billion at the global box office, achieving this milestone just 19 days after its release. The Pixar sequel has set a new record as the fastest animated film to reach this figure. Tony Chambers, Disney’s executive vice president of theatrical distribution, expressed his excitement over the film’s success, attributing it to Pixar's creativity and the power of great storytelling. The film’s release on June 16 has significantly boosted the 2024 box office, which had been trailing 2023's performance by over 25%. According to Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, the success of "Inside Out 2" has reduced the year-over-year domestic box office revenue deficit from 27% to 19%. "Inside Out 2" is now the highest-grossing film of the year and the first to pass $1 billion since "Barbie" in July of the previous year. It joins an elite group of Disney and Pixar films that have crossed the billion-dollar mark, including "The Incredibles 2," "Finding Dory," "Frozen," and "Toy Story" sequels.

COWBOY LEADERSHIP: HELPING TO BUILD NEW BUSINESS AND BUSINESSES: Start-Up Specialist Pioneering Innovations in Streaming, Movie Marketing, Digital Out-of-Home, Sports Entertainment, and Equestrian Lifestyle Services
It's a significant and much-needed course correction for the film industry. For too long, studios have been ensnared in the relentless pursuit of short-term profits and the production of an overwhelming quantity of films, often at the expense of quality. This approach, driven by the demands of Wall Street rather than the artistic integrity of filmmaking, has diluted the impact and potential of movies as the pinnacle of storytelling. Thankfully, there's a growing recognition that this strategy is unsustainable and ultimately counterproductive. By deciding to focus on crafting fewer films with a much higher quality, studios are beginning to realign with the true essence of cinema. This pivot not only criticizes the previous misguided priorities but also heralds a hopeful return to storytelling excellence. It's a reminder that the heart of cinema lies in its ability to tell compelling stories that resonate deeply with audiences, not in the volume of content produced. https://lnkd.in/gZx3aBws

"Shrek 2," a beloved film, recently marked its 20th anniversary with a re-release in theaters by Universal Pictures. As someone who contributed to all four Shrek films during my time at PDI/DreamWorks, I'm grateful for the experience among a talented crew. However, I've grown less tolerant of sensational headlines in the entertainment industry, like one that unfairly criticizes Disney in light of Shrek 2's success, citing that Disney should be "embarrassed". Such headlines overlook Disney and Pixar's pioneering work with "Toy Story," which paved the way for animated films' success today. Disney has nothing to be embarrassed about. The article compares Shrek 2's box office performance to recently released films, but it's important to remember that connecting with audiences is challenging. Every film released doesn't become a blockbuster, and each studio has its strengths. If it were easy, everyone would be creating films and every film would be a blockbuster. Let's appreciate the diversity of films available to us and celebrate storytelling and the effort it takes to bring a project to the big screen. Criticism should be constructive, not aimed at stirring controversy. Ultimately, let's strive for better discussions and appreciative reflections within the entertainment industry. We can do better!
