The first place title still remains in Pixar's court, with opening weekend for 'Incredibles 2' bringing in $182.6M. If predictions are correct, 'Inside Out 2' could bring in a staggering $140M-$150M by the end of the weekend. Are you seeing 'Inside Out 2' this weekend? ✨ #insideout2 #pixar

Experiments Not everything has to be justified on a balance sheet. Especially if it's short. Extended Dance Mix Version ‘Short’ films do not make money. In fact they cost millions. Nevertheless, Pixar found they serve to experiment technically, develop new capability (eg animate irregular human skin and cloth), develop people more broadly, deepen relationships, and send a message that the culture cares about artistry. In the 'nobody asked my category', I've always been curious if #lucasfilm and #disney 'lost money' on #solo A #StarWars #story 'on purpose'. More specifically, allocating the 'experiment' of the 'garage studio', knowing it would dramatically reduce cost, increase speed, and enrich the #production and #acting experience. For all films in the future.

‘Inside Out 2’ Becomes Pixar’s Highest-Grossing Movie This was last week’s big news – but what a milestone for PIXAR to come back from a lull with. Highest grossing film of the year, biggest opening weekend for animation, biggest second weekend / smallest drop off for an animated film, any of those would have been a great way to celebrate PIXAR’s return to box office success. But to have all of those and it became their highest grossing picture ever? That is wonderful. I don’t doubt they can keep up this mojo, they’ve been down before. I just hope this helps bring back the public perception of them as well. Disney giving away some of their films (excellent ones I will add as well) for free on streaming hurt the brand. Coming back to theaters with Lightyear, clearly a corporate pick, hurt the brand. Elemental was a slow burn, but a positive outcome in the end. Let’s hope this return to form keeps up. With all the talk about Toy Story 5* I had to look up what comes before it (2 films actually) – let’s hope those next PIXAR films get the care and release they deserve. But way to go PIXAR. https://lnkd.in/eZ9CJhxn #letsmakeplans #themedentertainment #disney #PIXAR #disneyparks

Disney's 2009 acquisition of Marvel for $4 billion has become a landmark in cinematic history, aligning perfectly with insights from a 2016 study on film success. Marvel movies, with their high budgets, demonstrate a clear correlation between investment and returns; "Avengers: Endgame" alone, on a budget of $356 million, grossed over $2.8 billion worldwide. The Marvel Cinematic Universe capitalizes on the lucrative trend of sequels and interconnected stories, with the "Avengers" series grossing approximately $7.78 billion globally. Marvel's approach of combining superhero themes with a family-friendly PG-13 rating broadens appeal, as seen in the success of "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel," each grossing over $1 billion. The mix of established stars like Robert Downey Jr. and emerging talents adds to the films' box office appeal, while the audience reception often plays a more critical role than critics' reviews in driving success. Furthermore, the strategic timing of releases during high-traffic seasons like summer and spring maximizes box office potential. This strategic exploitation of Marvel's properties by Disney showcases a deep understanding of what drives box office success, solidifying the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a powerhouse in modern cinema. #M&A #strategy https://lnkd.in/dfHg5uBm

‘Moana 2’ Set at Disney With Surprise 2024 Release Date I mean… I guess Iger’s got to do something to push off those activist investors ahead of the shareholders meeting. And this generates positive interest. But I don’t know about this. This will probably help Disney’s box office numbers, as animated sequels haven’t seen the same falling off their live action sequels/franchises have (hence the Frozen 4, Toy Story 5 announcements). But will it win the same critical acclaim as the original? I, like many, loved Moana, so I might be pretty critical of this. Although to be fair, in my opinion Frozen 2 was better than Frozen, so you never know. We need more information overall. But this better include Auli’i Cravalho and The Rock as the character voices – I am a little hesitant on that aspect after Auli’I stepped away from the live action Moana… which is also still on track for release 6 months after this sequel. So the whole thing is a little odd. After Wish, the bar for success is pretty low, but living up to the original (the most streamed movie of 2023) is a high bar. I'll go see it this Thanksgiving, which is what Iger is banking on. But overall, I need to know more. https://lnkd.in/eNx4MRSw #letsmakeplans #animation #filmindustry #themedentertainment #disney

Watch the new trailer for Disney & Pixar's Inside Out 2, only in theaters June 14! #Insideout2 The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out—but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.” A trailer, poster and film stills are now available for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of Summer 2024. Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. . R-rated stands for Revenue x 2. Disney and Marvel’s "Deadpool and Wolverine” is expected to have a gangbusters opening weekend tallying between $160 million and $180 million at the domestic box office. That would make it the biggest debut ever for an R-rated film. While it's too early to say if it will save the box office (Inside Out 2 has already done plenty of the heavy lifting), D&W may be the, um, claw in the arm to save the Marvel franchise as well. Disney is doing its part. Its collaboration with Pixar has Inside Out 2 has claimed the top spot for the highest-grossing opening of the year with $154.2 million. As for Deadpool, the original holds the record for the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film with $132.4 million. So, high jinks with Wolverine in the upcoming installment is expected to rake in more. Marvel may be full of superheroes, but it needs rescuing. The studio has been in a slump. Heavy hitters like Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk and the Avengers make for strong lineup, but they haven't exactly been hitting home runs. Marvel has been consistent over the years releasing blockbuster after blockbuster. Unfortunately, it's also struggled with a quantity over quality issue, creating audience fatigue along with a confusing and overwhelming avalanche of interconnected multiverse content. The brand is still strong, but a fewer releases/keep it simple approach may be the superpower Marvel needs right now. D&W (or the Ryan and Hugh comedy tour) may offer the right formula for Marvel. Deadpool has a unique identity, often funny and super casual, which is typically different from his serious superheroes. That along with the rough and tumble personality of Wolverine may be the ultimate superhero buddy movie everyone is looking for. When all is said done, D&W will bring in the audiences, but the storytelling will ultimately decide its fate for getting audiences to return and the rebuilding the Marvel brand https://cnb.cx/3Sn1fKA #marvel #disney #movies #boxoffice #hollywood #entertainment #brand

Disney is looking to bring a little joy to theaters with its upcoming release of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.” Current expectations see the animated sequel easily topping $85 million during its domestic opening this weekend, which would make it the highest debut of any film released in the United States and Canada in 2024. Some are even forecasting the film could secure more than $100 million in ticket sales, a feat not seen since July 2023 when Warner Bros.′ “Barbie” waltzed into cinemas. Any opening figure north of $50 million would be a boon for Pixar, which has struggled to regain its foothold at the box office in the wake of the pandemic. However, Disney seems confident in “Inside Out 2,” as the film is expected to have a 100-day theatrical run, a nearly unheard-of stint nowadays for animated features and non-blockbuster action flicks. While most consumers are agnostic about theatrical release windows — the period of weeks or months that a film is shown exclusively in theaters before it hits streaming or other on-demand options — for cinema operators and box office analysts, a commitment to more than three months of exclusivity on the big screen is a big deal. https://lnkd.in/gUvzp4qh
