Why are wineries around the world seeking #BCorp Certification? 🍇 While organic and biodynamic certifications have long been valued in the winery scene, there's been a glaring blind spot when it comes to how workers are treated. But that’s changing. Wineries around Europe and the world are recognizing the importance of #SocialSustainability, seeking B Corp Certification to signal their commitment to people and the planet. “B Corp seemed the most complete and exhaustive commitment to our environmental and social goals.” - Saskia D., Chief Executive of French B Corp Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. In his latest article for The New York Times, Eric Asimov explores how B Corp-certified wineries are reshaping the narrative of what it means to produce exceptional wines responsibly. 👉 Uncork the full story here: https://nyti.ms/3x0mN8o 💡 FACT: There are 35 B Corps in the wine industry in Europe (excluding the UK). European B Corps mentioned in the article: Champagne Bollinger, Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck & Rare Champagne, Avignonesi, and Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite.

I have worked with B Corps and B Lab for about 15 years and one of my takeaways from this great article published by The New York Times and written by Eric Asimov is how competition among wineries has accelerated adoption of and adherence to the movement in that industry. The dynamic is familiar: when one industry player becomes certified, the pressure on their competitors ramps up thanks to healthy competition. And becoming certified is not an exercise of being 'dusted and done.' Once the values of stakeholder capitalism take root, companies thrive on continual improvement.
While organic and biodynamic certifications have long been valued in the winery scene, there's been a glaring blind spot when it comes to how workers are treated. But that’s changing. From Oregon to Bordeaux, wineries around the world are recognizing the importance of social sustainability, seeking #BCorp Certification to signal their commitment to people and the planet. “B Corp seemed the most complete and exhaustive commitment to our environmental and social goals.” - Saskia D., Chief Executive. In his latest article for The New York Times, Eric Asimov explores how these three B Corp certified wineries — Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, Sokol Blosser Winery and Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery — are reshaping the narrative of what it means to produce exceptional wines responsibly. 🍷🍇 Uncork the full story here: https://nyti.ms/3x0mN8o Sarah Schwimmer Alex Sokol Blosser Charlotte Levitt Felton Road Wines Limited Champagne Bollinger Champagne Charles Heidsieck Avignonesi Benjamin Bridge Ridgeview Wine Estate Rathfinny Wine Estate Chehalem Winery Stoller Family Estate Soter Vineyards

Great article covering two things I like, Wine and more importantly the growth of the B Corp Movement and how it moves the dial in creating an economic model that makes environmental, economic and social sense.

Hey Distillers, the IBWSS state distillers webinar video is now out! It is a good catch up call on whats going on in different states, opportunities in making new products, compliance updates, sustainability and more. Speakers include Geoff Longenecker (San Diego Distillers Guild), John Granata (New Jersey Craft Distillers Guild), Aaron Bergh (Paso Robles Distillery Trail), President & Distiller (San Louis Obispo Distillers Guild), Teresa Casey (New York State Distillers Guild), David Cohen (Florida Craft Spirits Association). Check out video here. I am sure you will get some hints to plan your straretgy for 2024. One good question that I loved the answer was: Q: Are you building DTC infrastructure and sales? A: Lot of states get temporary DTC laws which means distillers only have 1-2 years to do DTC which is forcing them to not invest for long term as they don't know if the law will change and regulators will stop DTC. And that is one reason distillers are not able to invest heavy in building DTC capabilities. These group of amazing speakers will also be coming to the upcoming International Bulk Wine & Spirits Show where I will be moderating the panel of state distillers associations in July.

| NEWS TASTYWINES MEETINGS | " Why do I prefer the conviviality of a business convention to a major trade show? " Major international trade shows will always be must-attend events to see everyone 😍 But, seeing everyone is nice but not always very productive. 😅 The business convention is a tailor-made solution for do business 🤩. - My schedule is drawn up in advance. - I know who I'm meeting - I know their profile and volumes. - I know what the importer is looking for - I have his specifications. - I have 30 to 40 minutes face-to-face with him. So, many participants such as CHATEAU TURCAN, #VignoblesRomain, Les Marmandais ! .... return to meet importers from other countries and/or have their new vintages tasted.
