Happy Mazingira Day Kenya! 🌿 As we celebrate Mazingira Day, let's take a moment to reflect on our individual impact on the environment and how we can make positive changes for a greener future. Today, Mazingira Day encourages environmental awareness and tree-planting activities, vital steps toward protecting our planet. Beyond these actions, it's also important to recognize how sustainable menstruation contributes to environmental conservation. By choosing eco-friendly menstrual products like reusable pads, we reduce waste and minimize the environmental footprint of single-use alternatives. This small change not only promotes menstrual equity but also fosters a healthier planet. Let's unite in protecting the environment, from tree planting to embracing sustainable solutions in our daily lives. Together, we can create a future that values both people and the planet. 🌱🌍 #mazingiradaykenya #sustainability #menstruationmatters #greenmenstruation #biodegradableperiodproducts #sustainablemenstruation #treeplanting #periodpositive

🌳🌍 Today, on the International Day of Forests, let's shine a light on Sauti Kuu's Afforestation & Reforestation project sponsored by the Austrian Embassy in Nairobi. Siaya County, an area of about 2,496 km² with a population of close to 993,183, only has approx. 2% forest cover. The lack of forest cover is as a result of the felling of trees for firewood (charcoal) for domestic use. This lack of tree cover not only impacts local farm yields but also jeopardizes food security. Based on land availability Siaya County should be able to provide for itself and, beyond that, supply other parts of the country with food produce. In response to this pressing issue, Sauti Kuu has taken action in Alego Nyangoma, Siaya County. Through afforestation and reforestation initiatives, we aim to continue to: 🌧️ Influence rainfall patterns to enhance crop yields. 🌿 Restore the traditional live hedges around homesteads, enriching the local forest cover. 🔥 Provide sustainable alternatives to firewood by utilizing dry twigs and branches from live hedges for cooking. 🛡️ Establish live hedges as security fencing while also offering fruits for consumption and income generation. Together, let's celebrate the power of trees and commit to nurturing and preserving our precious forests for generations to come. 🌲🌳 #IntlForestDay #SautiKuu #Afforestation #Reforestation #Sustainability 🌍

Today, over 2 billion people rely on solid fuel such as charcoal for domestic cooking. Charcoal production can be extremely detrimental to the environment, as it can require upwards of 10 tons of wood to produce 1 ton of traditional charcoal. One of the initiatives at the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project is to create sustainable charcoal by pruning shrubs, rather than cutting down entire trees. Our team has produced tens of thousands of kgs of eco-charcoal without cutting down a single tree and are developing sales channels to increase its distribution. Nine permanent staff manually process up to 500 kgs of briquettes/week. This environmentally-friendly charcoal reduces deforestation pressures while providing an affordable cooking fuel for Kenyan families. Watch Kenya Television Network (KTN)’s full report on the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project to listen directly to what local community members think of the project, as reported by the Kenyan media. They covered various project activities including the production of eco-charcoal. Click here to watch the full clip: https://lnkd.in/e8JfT9i5 #charcoal #conservation #Kenya

🌳 Afforestation for a Greener Tomorrow in Kakuma 🌳 In the harsh, arid environment of Kakuma, where resources are limited and the land is dry, the Refugee and Host Resilience Initiative (REHORI) is leading the charge in combating desertification through afforestation efforts. By planting trees and promoting sustainable land use, REHORI is working to restore the environment and empower local women and youth to become champions of change. 🌱 Through these initiatives, women and young people are trained in tree planting, care, and land rehabilitation, creating income opportunities and fostering a sense of community responsibility for the environment. 👩🌾 Empowering Women & Youth: These programs are designed to uplift women and young people, equipping them with skills and knowledge in environmental conservation, agroforestry, and sustainable livelihoods. By doing so, REHORI ensures that the community takes ownership of the afforestation projects, creating lasting change and resilience in Kakuma. 🌍 A Future of Hope: Together, we can build a sustainable future, where both the environment and the community thrive. Join us in supporting afforestation efforts to create a greener, more prosperous Kakuma! #REHORI #Afforestation #Empowerment #Kakuma #SustainableFuture #WomenAndYouth #GreenKakuma #ECHO#DRC

🌱 Improving livelihoods of 5,000+ farmers. 🌱 Avoiding 25,000+ tons of CO2 emissions. 🌱 Revenues & gross margins growing ~3x & ~4x pa. EBITDA positive already in 2 countries. 🌱 Expanding to 3rd country, Indonesia. Impressive! Agros, our first Wavemaker Impact portfolio company, helps farmers double profits, improve soil health and yields plus reduce emissions, replacing noisy, dirty diesel pumps with clean solar. Clear product market fit. Besides sustainable farming solutions, Agros do something else really well… They know their customer. They know who they are, what distinct problems they face (by region) and how to best tailor their products and services to meet their needs. Why do I say that? > They discovered different regions face distinct challenges due to varying climate conditions and soil types. > They test soil to give farmers tailored recommendations for inputs, increasing crop yields up to 25% > They match repayment schedules with harvest cycles to help farmers cashflow > They developed a farmer champion program that incentivises early adopters Agros aims to help 100,000 farmers and mitigate over 1 mega tons of GHG emissions within five years - helped by recent Indonesia expansion. Keep up the great work Max Nelen, Arga Wicaksono, Vincent Angga Gunawan, Raisa Hosin, Thet Naing, Soeng Vay, Louise Berthault and the whole Agros team… onwards and upwards! INGLOSUS has partnered with Cultiva Green Project in Ecuador to build solar greenhouses. Ecuador has the highest rate of child malnutrition in South America and in the Cunucyacu province alone, one-third of all children under 2 years face daily food insecurity. Since the construction of the first 400- meter greenhouse, we have seen the commitment of people to this community to be self-sufficient through time. Every month we can see a huge amount of fresh products that grow as a result of the very fertile land. Our team has found a way to face hunger and chronic infant malnutrition by giving them the tools to produce fresh products as well as a higher share of their revenue. We have landed the project in a school with the collaboration of the local authorities. Our vision is to keep replicating the project with the construction of 130 other greenhouses that will go directly to the families in Cunucyacu. In this context, we are delighted to expect Ronny Excel Lema, Co-Initiator of Cultiva Green to DIGISUSTAIN 2024 and further collaborate on global food security.
