DAY 2🍃: I am Pearly Kusona Basung and here are some ways I would love to contribute to the Sustainability of my area, Obobogo. This Area has an issue with Waste management which in turn affects farming, conservation but has also helped with community community engagement. 1. Renewable Energy: Promote the use of solar, wind, or hydro power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. 2. Organic Farming: Encourage sustainable agricultural practices, reducing chemical usage and promoting local food systems. 3. Waste Management: Implement recycling programs, composting, and proper waste disposal. 4. Conservation: Protect natural resources, preserve water sources, and maintain biodiversity. 5. Education and Training: Offer workshops on sustainable practices, environmental awareness, and skill-building. 6. Community Engagement: Foster collaboration, inclusivity, and social connections among community members. 7. Local Economy Support: Encourage local entrepreneurship, support small businesses, and promote local procurement. 8. Environmental Restoration: Organize initiatives for reforestation, habitat restoration, and pollution mitigation. 9. Policy Advocacy: Support and advocate for policies that prioritize sustainability and environmental protection. Remember, every small contribution counts, and collective efforts can lead to significant positive change! #GETI #WBG

🌱 Improving livelihoods of 5,000+ farmers. 🌱 Avoiding 25,000+ tons of CO2 emissions. 🌱 Revenues & gross margins growing ~3x & ~4x pa. EBITDA positive already in 2 countries. 🌱 Expanding to 3rd country, Indonesia. Impressive! Agros, our first Wavemaker Impact portfolio company, helps farmers double profits, improve soil health and yields plus reduce emissions, replacing noisy, dirty diesel pumps with clean solar. Clear product market fit. Besides sustainable farming solutions, Agros do something else really well… They know their customer. They know who they are, what distinct problems they face (by region) and how to best tailor their products and services to meet their needs. Why do I say that? > They discovered different regions face distinct challenges due to varying climate conditions and soil types. > They test soil to give farmers tailored recommendations for inputs, increasing crop yields up to 25% > They match repayment schedules with harvest cycles to help farmers cashflow > They developed a farmer champion program that incentivises early adopters Agros aims to help 100,000 farmers and mitigate over 1 mega tons of GHG emissions within five years - helped by recent Indonesia expansion. Keep up the great work Max Nelen, Arga Wicaksono, Vincent Angga Gunawan, Raisa Hosin, Thet Naing, Soeng Vay, Louise Berthault and the whole Agros team… onwards and upwards! If you're an experienced founder, or business builder, who wants to build a sustainability unicorn but doesn’t know where to start… we’d love to help realise your mission to make a planet and people positive impact! #climateaction, #climatetech, #agritech, #sustainablefarming, #climatesmart, #irrigation, #solar, #soilhealth, #startup, #innovation #SoutheastAsia

🌾 Focus of the Month: Sustainable Food 🚜 On our journey toward a more sustainable world, we've seen the powerful impact of investing in sustainable food systems. One shining example from our portfolio is Agri Evolve in Uganda, a profit-for-purpose business dedicated to enhancing coffee quality and increasing farmer incomes ☕. Agri Evolve works directly with over 20,000 local farmers, many of whom are already Rainforest Alliance and/or organic certified, setting high standards for environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This Agri-Business is a certified B Corporation and provides extensive training to help farmers improve their agronomic and harvesting practices 🌱. By supporting Agri Evolve, we’re not only promoting sustainable farming but also fostering fair wages, ethical labor, and impactful community projects. Their initiatives include tree planting, energy-efficient stoves, clean water access, and Village Savings and Loan Association projects, all aimed at improving the lives of those they work with! #SustainableFood #ImpactInvesting #FoodSystemsTransformation #ClimateSmartAgriculture

From the beginning, FINCA has worked to advance sustainable agriculture with the goal of supporting smallholder farmers. A common barrier for farmers in low-income and rural communities is the lack of supply chains, which often results in 40% of their harvested crops to be spoiled or lost. This is why FINCA partners, such as KENTASTE PRODUCTS LTD, are crucial in addressing and lifting these barriers. The Kenyan coconut processor sources coconuts from thousands of smallholder farmers along the Kenyan coast, and provides a robust pipeline for farmers to sell their coconuts at a fair price. Aligning with FINCA’s values, Kentaste’s business model creates greater access to capital, promotes waste reduction and renewable energy--while improving the overall quality of life for smallholder farmers and their families. #SustainableAg

Whiore has signed a significant relationship agreement with Murihiku Regeneration in Southland. The partnership was formalised during Waitangi Day celebrations with the signing of a Relationship Agreement between the two organisations. The initiatives the partnership will drive will focus on innovative ways of farming shellfish and seaweeds, on land and in the sea, as well as the sustainable harvest of seaweeds and marine fauna rich in bio-actives suitable for nutritional supplements. The initial focus of the partnership will be the harvest of the invasive seaweed species undaria (wakame), and aquaculture opportunities at Ocean Beach, Tiwai Point, in Bluff Harbour and around Ruapuke Island. Taonga species such as the Bluff (or flat) oyster and sea urchin (kina) will be the focus of this work. The partnership will exploit techniques for culturing these species that will serve as the basis of a new hatchery/nursery, as well as new technologies for farming them. One of the most innovative projects will look at the possibility of installing a system that can utilise CO2 created in the aluminium smelting process and excess heat to drive rapid algal production in a closed loop system within the smelter’s footprint. This would help reduce the smelter’s carbon footprint. Aligned with this will be a feasibility study on establishing a high-tech bio-refinery to generate a cascade of products including bioactives, that could form the basis of nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals from seaweed biomass. The principals of the two entities forming the partnership have strong whakapapa connections to Bluff and its surrounding environments, as well as Ruapuke and Rakiura islands. https://lnkd.in/gew-ipaR

Launch of Thailand’s High Salinity Bio-cement Project. Thailand's innovative steps toward sustainability took a leap forward with the launch of a bio-cement project aimed at combating soil salinity. This ground-breaking initiative tackles one of the country's key agricultural challenges—soil degradation caused by high salt levels, which impacts food production and rural livelihoods. The project utilises natural processes to create eco-friendly bio-cement, restoring soil health and enabling long-term agricultural productivity. It's a clear example of how science and sustainability can work together to benefit communities and nature. This initiative goes beyond just improving farming conditions. It speaks to the broader need for sustainable solutions across industries. As we look to the future of agriculture, infrastructure, and even event management, projects like this serve as a model for creating lasting impact. By focusing on the health of the environment, we also enhance the well-being of communities that depend on it. #Sustainability #AgricultureInnovation #BioCement #SoilHealth #Thailand #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityImpact #GreenTech #EcoFriendly #FutureOfFarming https://lnkd.in/gsRf6HnC
