I feel so lucky to be able to work on an indie game alongside this talented team! Always love all the heart & soul our Creative Director Eliana Cadelina pours into her artwork! Her dedication and diligent research serves as constant inspiration to our team, motivating us all to push creative boundaries further with our game. 🕯"Love & Other Monsters" is a gothic sapphic love novel & dating sim we began working on as our senior capstone project, and a game we wanted to continue to refine and expand on even after graduation! While we're still figuring out how to navigate through the exciting world of indie game development, here are some things we learned as students and throughout our game jams: 1. Conduct playtests regularly. Ask for external feedback, and be open to receiving it! Iterate on it. It will make a worlds difference, and can help protect you from internal biases within the team. 2. Be accepting that we may not always have complete creative autonomy or freedom. And that's okay. In return, we learn to *truly* value each other's inputs, collaborate, and compromise in order to guide us towards a unified vision. 3. Brainstorming is fun, but don't be afraid to shed ideas. Recognize that our ideas are not a reflection of our value or self-worth, but rather contributions to a larger creative process. By remaining open to refining our concept and being willing to let go of elements that no longer serve the core vision, we ensure that our project maintains clarity and direction. Remain flexibile. I hope these lessons will help guide others who are also just getting into game development! Excited to unveil further progress on our indie game as we press forward! 💖
