2024 Best Places to Retire in the U.S. Floridians pack up their jet skis and buy some Middleswarth Chips, because Florida isn’t the best place to retire—Pennsylvania is. That’s according to US News & World Report, which ranked the state capital, Harrisburg, No. 1 for its access to the outdoors and a buffet of nearby festivals. Pennsylvania accounts for seven of the top 10 towns on the list, while Florida has just one (Daytona Beach). Only three Florida cities were top 20, down from eight last year. If you would have told me when I was cleaning toilets, I could be helping business grow and scale. I would of held up that jonny mop and laughed. I always believed that a great union job would get me through. The truth is half of nothing still nothing. And when they promised you to retire with half you can guarantee they will. I quit a good union job I zeroed out that $20,000 retirement, and began to look for what else was out there. Was a scary time yes. I’m working 16 hour days facing out of the school district. To job hopping for growth opportunities. They all say I’m gonna miss you. You had great work. It was hot, capturing my full potential. Post my dd214 after few years of drinking, I learned with over 10 years of Janitorial work. If you are really good at they give you more Janitorial work. I wanted more then that. I’m turning 40 and realize life is to short. Here’s the deal, you are not where you work, you are not what you do, you are the fullness of your thoughts and your actions. Let me tell you who you are is more than what you could imagine. I don’t know if this test means I’m crazy or not but here are my results. You should by the book or give the test a whirl. Think big, it is not uncommon for common men (people) to do great things. Your mind is the lens of which you processed the information around you and as you upgrade your processing. Not only is it faster it is now truer. So when things that happen that wouldn’t offend you before happen you may pray for the person. Or sympathy. Here is another set of themes included in my test. IMPORTANT UPDATE #Verizon has released details surrounding their latest Voluntary Service Program (VSP). This is a BIG package! It is easy to focus on the amount of money Verizon is throwing at you to leave. It's about fifteen months of salary when it is all added up. That can be very attractive. It could pay off some debt. Or cover college costs. Or it could be the down payment on a vacation home. Your bigger question should be: Do I have enough other resources to retire or separate comfortably? This means different things based on your age. A good rule of thumb - and I hate rules of thumb - compares your retirement savings to your income. For instance, if you are 45 and have at least 5x your income saved for retirement, you are ahead of most Americans - even most successful Americans. If you are 55 and have more than 10x your income, you are likely on track for a successful retirement. And if you're 65 and have at least 15x, you might be lighting your cigars with $100 bills. But that's just a rule of thumb. I've seen people with massive portfolios who cannot retire. And I've seen people with a fraction of this type of savings that can successfully retire because of quirks within their own situation. What this means is you will need to run the calculation yourself - or have a professional do it for you. You need to account for all the variables now and in the future.
