Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP)'s Founding Partner Matthew Harris and Global Head of Energy Salim Samaha joined other leaders at the Milken Institute Global Conference to discuss this year’s theme of “Shaping a Shared Future”. Throughout the conference, we were approached by a wide variety of people focused on the increased global demand and need for infrastructure. In our view, two of the most important enablers of global development and prosperity will be energy and technology – namely, the increased need for renewables and for AI, which dovetail elegantly with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP)’s expertise across Energy, Digital, Transportation and Water & Waste, as well as our commitment to furthering the global energy transition. We at Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) are focused on serving growing market needs for affordable, carbon-free and more secure sources of energy and it was terrific to connect with global leaders who appreciate the importance of these issues.

CurrENT was delighted to attend the ‘Clean Transition Dialogue on European Green Deal Infrastructure’, hosted by the Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Maroš Šefčovič, of the European Commission. “Commission Executive Vice-President Šefčovič is right to instill a sense of urgency and need for greater European coordination in developing European energy infrastructure fit for decarbonisation, energy independence and technology leadership. This great European moonshot will fail without grid technology innovation” says Christian Kjaer, Chair of CurrENT. “Europe must become better at scaling innovative grid technologies that are already commercially mature, and we must become better at assisting innovative grid technology through the valley of death from demonstration to commercialisation.” The dialogue brought together high-level industry experts representing key associations to discuss the vital infrastructure, of which advanced energy grids will play a major role, necessary for achieving the decarbonisation goals set out in the European Green Deal.
