Pines Road OMV

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles in Shreveport has moved from its old location on Normandie Drive to a new location in Financial Plaza on Pines Road off of Interstate 20.

"We've been at the old location for 30 years," OMV Commissioner Dan Casey said. "Financial Plaza has bus service, and we want to make sure those that don't drive that need credentials can get to and from our facilities. The Normandie building itself was in need of some repair, and we looked at the costs for fixing where we were at then given the opportunity for Caddo to pick a new location for us."

State Rep. Tammy Phelps has concerns about the location not being central to Shreveport.

"Normally, when you go through the process, it's designed within a center radius of our city," Phelps said.

Phelps is also concerned about a $4.50 service fee tacked on to transactions at the new location.

"This $4.50 will be paying for this location. Here we are leasing a building that's going to cost constituents another fee per transaction," Phelps said.

However, Casey says the benefit to area drivers will pay for itself in upgrades to wait times and working conditions for employees.

"This is going to be one of our state of the art facilities," Casey said. "When you see the inside of it, you'll see that it's going to provide great service for the consumer and great working conditions for our employees."

The $4.50 fee will be tacked onto each transaction at the Pines Road location, but will not apply at the Bossier location.

The Shreveport OMV will open at 8 a.m. Monday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
