AI generations, or AI generation credits, grant you access to our AI Generator for generating new AI images and modifying images (your generated images or images from Getty Images’ creative library) using the Refine, Extend, and Remove Background tools, as well as any additional features as we introduce them. Clicking “GENERATE” or “GENERATE MORE” creates a generation and counts toward your generation cap.

No, to license a creative image from Getty Images’ library, you will need to purchase an individual license, an UltraPack, or a Premium Access subscription. To find the best plan with the right price for your needs, visit our Plans and Pricing page or reach out to your representative.

A generation counts each time you select “GENERATE” or “GENERATE MORE”. This could be to generate a new image or to modify images by clicking “Modify with AI”. This includes images you create using our AI Generator, or the ones you modify from our creative library. In all instances, clicking “GENERATE” produces four new images, and your total number of used generations will decrease by 1. The current count and total number you have available can be found next to the “GENERATE” button.

You have one year from the Effective Date of your Agreement to use your Getty Images AI generations. If you do not use all your generations within this period, your remaining generations will expire.

AI image generations refer to the process of creating new images using text‑to‑image prompting in the AI model. You can modify these AI‑generated images by selecting “Modify with AI” to use our Refine, Extend, and Remove Background tools, which we call AI image modification. You can use Modify with AI to Refine, Extend, and Remove Background from our royalty‑free creative image library.

If you have signed up for the Getty Images AI Generator or the Custom Fine‑Tune model, you may not cancel your Agreement once it has been purchased, unless local law requires us to give you the option to cancel.

To determine if you are entitled to an early cancellation under local law, please make a request in writing through our customer service email form.

Our Generative AI service is non‑refundable.  

Generative AI technology is rapidly evolving, and results can sometimes be unexpected or imperfect. At times, it can take multiple prompts or image refinements to get to the precise image you need. We are improving the AI model and adding features on a regular basis, but some subjects can be tricky. Please see our User Guide for prompting tips and ways to improve results.

You may also find that images from the Getty Images library better meet your needs. We have recently launched a new AI‑powered search that allows you to be more expressive in your search queries, to help you find the right visual more efficiently. You can also use Modify with AI to Refine, Extend, and Remove Background from the creative library. You can even remove the background to further refine the visual to create the specific image you need.

For content generated with the Getty Images AI Generator used for editorial purposes, the Artist Member's Name included should be "Getty Images AI Generator." There is no need to give attribution for content generated with the Getty Images AI Generator used for commercial purposes, nor are there any credit requirements required with respect to the modifications of any of creative content modified with the Generative AI by Getty Images.   

Please refer to the Getty Images Content License Agreement for the attribution requirements that apply to our creative content, whether modified or not.

Yes, you can. Select “AI Generator” and enter a prompt to generate a new image. Once you click “GENERATE”, you will be provided with four images. Each image is clickable, allowing you to open a larger, watermarked preview image. According to your Agreement you can download unlimited, unwatermarked AI‑generated images.

No, you will not be charged to download a generated or modified image a second time. Your agreement includes unlimited downloads of any image you generate or modify.

No, Getty Images does not offer customer refunds for generations used as set forth in your agreement.

There’s no need to return the file—as part of your agreement, you can download generated or modified images an unlimited number of times.
