Masked Singer star Joel Dommett has been "banned" from appearing on Strictly Come Dancing - but not by BBC bosses. Instead, the comedian's wife, model Hannah Cooper-Dommett has said that she would prefer him "not to do it".

The 35-year-old blonde beauty shared that her TV personality husband, 39, has been approached to go on the BBC dance show but she steered him away due to it leaving a raft of broken relationships in its wake.

Speaking to the press, Hannah admitted: "I have a rule with Joel that I’d rather, if there was a choice, he didn’t do Strictly. I hate to say it, but the Strictly curse and all that stuff.

"And it makes me sound awful because Joel says, ‘Don’t you trust me?’. He can practise the Tango at home with me, it’s fine."

Hannah later admitted that there was another reason that she didn't think Joel would be capable of lifting the Glitterball trophy, as she said: "He’s awful at dancing".

The couple, who are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary later this year, have been supportive of each other amid their respective careers.

Joel has credited Hannah with his recent career success, saying she keeps him “grounded” and “happy” and that he would be a “horrible” person without her.

The loved-up couple are understood to have begun their relationship in 2016 following an exchange on social media. Hannah allegedly drunkenly sent him a message on Instagram after he finished runner-up on I’m A Celebrity.

The couple got engaged the following year and then went on to tie the knot in a wedding ceremony in 2019.

The supposed 'Strictly curse' relates to individuals taking part in the dance contest seemingly developing romances with fellow participants, despite being in relationships with other people.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding it over the years and a number of couples are said to have split during or after one of them has competed on the long-running show.

Countdown star Rachel Riley was paired with professional Pasha Kolalev back in in 2013. She subsequently split from her husband, Jamie Gilbert, to pursue a relationship with the Russian dancer.

Meanwhile, in 2018, Seann Walsh and Katya Jones were caught on camera kissing, despite both being in longterm relationships.

The next series of Strictly is set to launch later this year. However, the line up of celebrity contestants have yet to be unveiled - despite some names already being rumoured, such as Netflix star's Dave Fishwick.
