Legendary actress Amanda Barrie has sparked concern with a one-word social media post. The 88-year-old star had been inundated with worried messages after she shared an out-of-character message.

In a cryptic post on her X (formerly Twitter) account earlier this afternoon (July 17), the former soap star penned a two-letter word, which sparked a flurry of concern. She simply wrote: "By".

The post, which has been seen more than 11,000, receieved an influx of worried messages. One social media user replied: " You ok ? Hun," followed by a red loveheart.

Someone else questioned: "Amanda, are you ok?" Another concerned fan penned: "I hope your OK."

The Alma Sedgwick actress didn't respond to any of the concerned comments or provide any further updates. Her posts on the social media platform are normally more upbeat, as she often retweets cute pictures of film-related posts.

Amanda has made television gold throughout her career, starring in Benidorm, Coronation Street and Carry On Cleo, just to name a few.

Back in 2018, she told Express that she had suffered a life-threatening illness in 1997, on the night of Princess Diana's funeral. She explained that she was admitted to hospital in a rush after her throat randomly swelled up.

She said: "It was really terrifying. It blew up in the middle of the night. I was like a balloon."

Struggling to breathe, and fearing her life, she sought immediate medical attention. Once at the hospital, medics administered powerful antihistamines to counteract her severe allergic reaction.

Amanda had been diagnosed with anaphylaxis – a "life-threatening reaction to a trigger", the NHS clarified. Most troublesome, Amanda – still to this day – is unaware as to what caused her throat to swell up on that night.

The NHS stated that the condition develops suddenly and "gets worse very quickly" and can soon become a medical emegency.

Symptoms of anaphylaxis include: feeling lightheaded or faint; breathing difficulties; wheezing; and a fast heartbeat. Other signs of the condition include clammy skin, confusion and anxiety, collapsing or losing consciousness.

There can be other warning signs of an allergy, which includes an itchy, raised rash; feeling nauseous; swelling; and stomach pain.
