Jennifer Lopez is asked POINT BLANK about Ben Affleck split rumors
Jennifer Lopez was finally asked point blank about the ongoing speculation that her marriage to Ben Affleck is over. The On The Floor hitmaker, 54, was hit with the hot question during a press conference for her new Netflix film Atlas in Mexico City on Wednesday. In a now-viral video, a male reporter shocked the crowd when he asked Lopez to confirm if the 'Ben Affleck rumors' were 'real.'
She looked tense as she tried to laugh it off while her co-star Simu Liu quickly jumped to her defense. Lopez — who was still wearing her wedding ring — then playfully scolded the man. 'You know better than that,' she said. Lopez did not attempt to deny rumors her fourth marriage is on the rocks.
The audience applauded J.Lo for how she handed the situation while one of the panelists - her costar Simu - warned other reporters to steer clear of that line of questioning. 'Don’t come in here with that energy, please' the 35-year-old Canadian actor said.
At another point during the presentation Simu chimed in to defend J-Lo once more as he said: 'If I could just end on one thing. 'Jen is a producer on this movie and the reason why I’m here and the reason why Sterling (K. Brown) was in this beautiful movie was because Jen cares. Jen cares about things like representation and diversity — and she’s a boss! ' Meanwhile, video of the interaction was shared to Instagram by ElGordoyLaFlaca, where fans shared their thoughts in the comment section.
Some thought that Lopez looked visibly upset and 'hurt' by the reporter's question. 'She looks so hurt when asked that question. They should just leave her alone,' one IG user wrote. Another fan begged the media to stop 'getting into her life.'
Meanwhile, Affleck was pictured in Los Angeles, California with his 12-year-old son Samuel. The Argo actor looked jovial despite the marriage speculation. He was photographed smiling as he strolled with the son he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52.
Lopez has been divorced three times. The singer's first marriage was to Cuban actor Ojani Noa, 49, in 1997. It only lasted 11 months.
She tied the knot again with choreographer Cris Judd, 54, in 2001 but they were divorced by 2003.
Lopez welcomed her twins Max and Emme, 16, during her 10-year marriage to Latin hitmaker Marc Anthony, 55. They wed in 2004 following Lopez's first shock split with Affleck that same year. Anthony and Lopez separated in 2011 and their divorce was finalized in 2014.
Lopez arrived in Mexico on Tuesday as part of the ongoing promo trail for Netflix's Atlas, which hits theaters Friday, May 24. Despite the Q&A debacle, the mother-of-two appeared unshaken by the speculation around her relationship with Affleck as she posed for photographers on Wednesday.
She put on a dazzling display in a sheer jumpsuit after recently sharing that she is the 'thinnest' she's ever been. The sexy netted ensemble showed off her nude bra underneath and was cinched at the waist to highlight her figure. The mother-of-two added height to the outfit with chunky silver platform heels.
Lopez and Simu were also joined by director Brad Peyton for the press event. Atlas centers on a brilliant data analyst (Lopez) with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it, said a press release. Lopez is producing Atlas through her production company Nuyorican Productions and their deal with Netflix.
Earlier this week it was reported that Affleck is pushing to divorce Lopez, after branding the union a 'fever dream'. Amid swirling split rumors, PageSix has claimed Affleck is ready to call an end to his two-year marriage, going as far to claim the decision to tie the knot was down to 'temporary insanity'. A source told the site that the Oscar-winner has 'come to his senses' after previously being so in love with the Atlas actress that he could not think straight.
While he has been spotted spending quality alone time with Lopez in recent days, he now feels his head is 'clear' and he can move on. 'If there was a way to divorce on grounds of temporary insanity, he would,' the PageSix source said. The actor has been living in a $100K-per-month rental mansion in Brentwood located just two blocks away from his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and not in the marital home he shares with Lopez.
