Hey if you’re in to bums and vagrants (I don’t call them homeless) and the human feces and smells that go with that, you’ll love it. I spent time in Austin as a kid (sister lived there) 1964, it sure was different/better back then. Very sad.

I have mixed feelings about this city.
I have mixed feelings about this city. I moved there in 1987..about 400,000 people at that time. The city council kept voting down infrastructure as un-needed, till it became needed. NOW 2+ million people live in the same area. Amazing. PEOPLE everywhere. There seems to be more cars than people now. What Austin used to be, is no longer there. Many good eateries went out of business with the plague. Music venues are still about, but $$$ If you are young, like 20's 30's ... You will love it. You could not blow that age group out of there with a canon....But, after you figure how much it costs to live there, you make less than $100k OR you have a young family, you will not love how far your money goes. And it Go's..and Go's.. tolls, food, rent or property tax. BUT you dont pay a state income tax OR tax on your groceries...Neat huh?? BUT the property tax or rent, will blind you..

Great City!
Great City! There is a lot going on but it is also quite chilled.
We loved that it was very walkable - the weather was great and we enjoyed a swim in Barton Springs which I would highly recommend.
Other highlights included the amazing food options, Antone's for music and the Comedy Mothership.
Would 100% go back

Good shopping and dining nearby on Brodie Lane and Mopac service road. Cypress Grill ("Taste of New Orleans") serves great, authentic food. Be wary, avoid and ignore persons talking to themselves on the sidewalks. Cyress Grill ("Taste of New Orleans")

Austin was great and the hotel was fine.
Austin was great and the hotel was fine. My experience with Booking.com was terrible. The hotel had confirmed they did not have an issue with modifying my reservation (in fact they gave me a credit at the end) but Booking insisted they could not change the reservation despite the fact that the agreement clearly states I can “modify or cancel my reservation without penalty”

Austin made an excellent impression on us.
Austin made an excellent impression on us. There were some homeless that one could see, but they were in general well behaved relative to other larger citifies like San Francisco, Seattle or Portland.

We absolutely loved staying in the Hidden Oasis. The hosts were great and quick to respond to any messages and check in was super easy.
The property is located in a very quiet area just outside of the city and has everything we needed plus more. The garden is lovely and great for a barbecue, it also has a great play den that the kids really enjoyed.
It’s also close enough to the city for a stroll in the park (+-10min drive to Zilker park) or going sightseeing in downtown Austin.
Very nice, charming boutique hotel right in the Domain in Austin. Great location, great look & feel of the hotel. Very unique-looking rooms which have everything you need, including ice in the freezer. The on-site restaurant was also very good (even had vegan options!). Nice pool area, also great that they light firepits at night, nice cosy feeling.
Undoubtedly the finest accommodation in Austin, Texas. The design is exquisite, with stunning rooms, and the security staff is both kind and approachable. Additionally, there's a charming Starbucks conveniently located within the hotel. The perfect location adds to the overall appeal.
