How to register for a child account

Updated: 12 September 2022

Whether you’re a child, parent or guardian, first make sure you’re not already signed in to a BBC account on the device you are using.

How to check if you’re already signed in

1. Look at the top of this page. Do you see either “Your account” or a display name next to the BBC logo? That means you’re already signed in to another BBC account.

2. Click “Your account” or the display name.

3. On the following page, click “Sign out”. If you’re on a mobile you may need to click “Menu” first.

Then register for a child account

Once you’re signed out of any other BBC accounts, you can set up a child account. Here’s how:

1. On any BBC website, click on “Sign in” at the top of the page. You’ll find it near the BBC logo.

2. On the next screen, click on “Register now”.

3. Then follow the instructions on the screen to fill in your details.

4. If you’re under 13 years old, you’ll have to ask your parent or guardian to create a BBC account for you. You’ll need to choose a username and a password. Be sure to remember these. If you forget your password, you won’t be able to reset it. That means you'll have to ask your parent or guardian to register a new account.

Putting parents in control

Once they've registered for a BBC account, children under 13 will need permission from a parent or guardian before they can do things like:

  • Post comments on BBC children’s websites
  • Get personalised recommendations and pick up shows where they left off
  • Receive notifications about things they like
  • Upload contributions for competitions, games and more
