Tom Cannon scored four goals as Stoke City thrashed Portsmouth to claim their first Championship win under new head coach Narcis Pelach.
Cannon gave the hosts a deserved lead after 13 minutes with his first goal for the club when he curled in a free-kick from 25 yards.
Portsmouth drew level after 29 minutes when Mark O'Mahony finished off a swift counter-attack, but Stoke scored twice in three minutes through Cannon and Sam Gallagher before half-time.
Cannon netted twice in quick succession after the break, before Andrew Moran completed the rout over the visitors, who still remain winless after eight league games.
The Potters came flying out the traps in the opening stages and Ben Wilmot crashed an effort off the crossbar from just outside the box after just 30 seconds.
It set the tone for a blistering performance and the home side got their reward when Cannon's dipping free-kick bounced just in front of Pompey goalkeeper Will Norris, who got a hand to his effort but could not keep it out.
Norris briefly made amends when he claimed a free-kick and threw quickly to Josh Murphy, who burst away before squaring for O'Mahony to slot home the equaliser from 12 yards.
Stoke regained their lead shortly before the break when Gallagher threaded a neat ball through for Cannon to smash a pinpoint near-post finish into the top corner.
The game was put beyond John Mousinho's side in first-half injury-time when Norris saw a poor pass intercepted by Moran, who teed up Gallagher to rifle home from the edge of the box.
Shortly after the interval, Cannon was brought down in the area by Norris after Murphy hesitated to deal with a loose ball and the 21-year-old striker dusted himself down to complete his hat-trick.
Cannon, who is on loan from Premier League side Leicester, added his fourth three minutes later when Bae Junho pulled it back for him to fire across goal and into the bottom corner.
Moments later, Junho then fed a ball infield for Moran to drive home from 20 yards and complete Stoke's demolition of Portsmouth in five ruthless minutes at the beginning of the second half.
Pompey were able to limit Stoke from creating any further clear chances but the damage was done by the Potters, who scored five goals in 13 minutes either side of half-time.
O'Mahony's first goal since joining on loan from Brighton became a mere consolation in a defeat that leaves Portsmouth 23rd, above bottom side Cardiff City only on goal difference, despite that also taking a severe blow.
A first victory in four games for Stoke lifted them six places to 15th.
'We were more clinical'
Stoke City head coach Narcis Pelach told BBC Radio Stoke: "Great win. Very happy for the players, for the staff and for the fans.
"The players fought a lot from the beginning. We gave them a difficult start. I think we have been good in all of our games. I'm very pleased because the performance was good and it's a totally deserved result.
"We were more clinical. I think the level of energy and competitiveness was very high.
"I am pleased with both games we have played at home. Of course last week [the loss to Hull] was a more difficult game but today has been fantastic. Lots of goals as well, which we needed. The performance was exceptional."
'That level of performance is unacceptable'
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent: "It's difficult to summarise right now. The game went away from us very, very quickly five minutes before half-time and then five minutes after half-time. We just had this mad 10-minute spell.
"But my overall thoughts on the game were that we started abysmally. The first 10 minutes, I don't know what we were thinking. We thought we were going to come here and play in some sort of way which is just completely foreign from a decent away performance.
"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb going a goal down, which we deserved to go a goal down. We got back into the game and then things were fairly even until about the 40th minute.
"The two goals we concede before half-time were just abysmal. Then [in the] second half, Stoke killed the game off very early.
"I think the biggest positive is that it finished six. That level of performance is unacceptable."
